It’s tough to say what my favorite song is,..,,
I love the ending to disco volante with that Elvis reverb crescendo , “ bring backkkkkk the paaaaaain that is truuuue” I love techno search for allah There’s too many things I can point to. 😭
There’s too much I love about MB, I always thought FNM was jealous because that was Patton’s main band masquerading as a side band Who didn’t have to tour that much, they didn’t have to sell platinum plus. They didn’t have to chart top 40. They were treated as mutant freaks over at Warner. They were a spoiled band because Mike had become a teen magazine star. It shielded them from getting dropped, IMO.
And while I liked FNM, when the singer left, Mike saved the band and then the guitarist was intimidated by how quickly Mike became the de facto leader. The 2nd lp cemented that. Jim Martin leaves because he can’t handle the death metal influences. Likely because it’s difficult for him to keep up with the goat.
Then FNM keeps replacing the guitarist each time & Mike lays down the law & makes FNM his side band in late 90’s
Strangely enough the 2 main leaders of Bungle both have record labels. But Mike became like a serious output for any artist or group he liked. Now MB returns strangely on some insane timeline & they have legendary drummer they wanted plus the legendary guitarist Stan of the band.
When this record is released, it opens the door for new material. Even though Ian is probably too stunned & dazed to ponder that he’s in the band with his well known crush.
Will Ian be able to handle this band if they shift to a post California Musical vision? Or is this the finale because the demo aggravated them much they never got to record it & mix it the way they wanted? I guess it depends on Trey and Mike. But this 2nd guitarist takes the pressure off Trey. But maybe Ian can hang with whatever Trey, Trevor, Mike throw at them. Trevor is a beast, he wrote Retrovertigo & Co-wrote Platypus. 😳
It looks to me like mike intends to keep Lombardo & Ian. Does this mean the next lp is going to be on the same 5 year cycle? I don’t know if they would wait 5 years. I think mb wants to do new material & this was just a way to woodshed the band & give the fans their dream: the thrash project that is not badly generation of tape but the vision of how they intended it.
These guys are secret cult marketing geniuses. Mike probably knew last year what he was planning after a few shows. 😭
Lmao you got it all wrong bruh Jim Martin was the metal head in the band, hes the one who wrote j***lobber, the hardest song on that album. What he couldn't stand was the other sounds being brought in like electro pop on a small victory for example. He said he didn't even know how to write to songs like that
You are correct tho that he didn't like Mike p taking over the group and sound as he had always been the alpha shot caller before that
Oddly enough none of the "new" records released sound like Mr bungle. It just sounds like a metal band that happens to have Mike patton fronting it
No weird genre shifts, funk or jazz just str8 heavy metal
This “new” record is a re-recording of their first demo when they were a straightforward thrash band with some songs they never recorded thrown in. But you’re right, with Patton singing and Lombardo on drums it does kind of just sound like Dead Cross.
New issue of Revolver (which I did not know still exists) has a Mike Patton interview by Eric Andre.
This might be my favorite song of theirs:

Apparently he’s a big Mr. Bungle fan (I’d imagine the first album’s his favorite).

Can’t imagine their upcoming Halloween show can top this “fuck you” of a performance. Poor taste, sure, but Anthony Kiedis should have minded his own f***ing business:

O yea 😳
It’s like Bungle in high school if they got to make the first tape they wanted to sound right except the high school chums got to include their musical thrash metal heroes.
Dave scott mike trey Trevor all 🐐’s
Dave’s double pedal work 😎
Metal magazines & outlets are going to freak out at this project. This is the first Bungle lp without any brass or woodwind work. It looks like there won’t be any keyboards. I wonder how long it takes to record Scott to do something like this after he’s shown the changes ? 😳
Bar McKinnon, you better come back after covid. One of the unspoken 🐐 😎
If this is just a warm up lp... this is the equivalent of inception of thrash metal with this line up. Let’s just add into this madness, everyone is in their 50’s & they are playing in their early 20’s
@u ok jay @Sir_Swagalot @cotton_dockers @Wt701
It is interest8ng how Fantomas 20 years ago led the road back to Bungle with Trev, Dave and Mike. Trey has always been the quiet one with his low key label: web of mimicry. 🤔
New interview with Trevor and Trey about the album:

Really good Trey interview from the 25th anniversary of California (in-depth discussion of the recording of the album and the meanings behind “Golem II” and “None of Them Knew They Were Robots”):

WB should pay them to design deluxe Bungle editions and give us tour show's as bonuses.
About to be the 30th anniversary soon for the debut
Artwork and packaging could be wild. If WB passes, they can release em when they get the master recordings turned back to them.

They should get Bär and Heifetz back to re-record “Mr. Niceguy” and “Thunderball”.

One thing i found interesting a discovery is what Trevor Dunn said in a interview this month on youtube. One of the biggest musical influence's is (you won't believe this) Oingo Boingo.
You listen to their music and it's a component to Bungle's musical voicings & structure. But I don't think anyone woud pick up on it if you weren't told. But when you listen to this band's work it's like their spirit animal.
Because the only real song people know is "Weird Science"
But the guitarlines, basslines, horn lines, this band was obviously one of their sparks.
And So Danny Elfman's vocal's and his rhythm guitarlines were inspirations for Trey and Mike. Listen to the guitar tone & the rhythmic progressions.
This is an eye opener listening to their work today. Who would've guessed that Danny Elfman's band was a huge influence on Bungle?
Oingo goes crazy tribal with the marimba on the second lp
If you listen to the first Bungle lp, the puzzle pieces fit and a mystery has been solved.
But what's crazy about it is, most Bungle fans aren't listening to Oingo Boingo. Because Weird Science doesn't sound like Bungle and that's most of what anyone knows about this band.
But let me give you an example of Oingo's work and then think about the debut Bungle lp. Listen to "Insects" it's clear as day:
Now it makes me wonder if Fishbone was a Oingo fan as well. They must have been. It makes sense because IRS records had wide distribution everywhere. I see where the horns came in for Bungle and Fishbone. Oingo must have toured the bay area a bit in the late seventies early eighties.

I thought Bungle got the ska influence from Fishbone but them also being Oingo Boingo fans totally makes sense. Love that album; “Running on a Treadmill” and “Private Life” are great.
