They have done this every album. Every single Kendrick album including GKMC. People were saying he sold out when GKMC came out because of Backseat Freestyle.
Others were saying it’s too early to consider it a classic. I remember people saying YG dropped a better album.

But Kendrick always takes the dub because the music is undeniable

To try and manufacture this narrative that GKMC wasn’t praised is wild. The GKMC reaction is NOT comparable to the reaction of the albums since. That album was cemented very quickly. It’s the quickest that I’ve ever seen an album be a confirmed classic in my life

Living through gkmc really was like seeing an Illmatic type event for the first time

Yeah. I used to lurk rap forums in the late 00's as a kid and Nas was trolled heavily back then. Nas even acknowledged his haters online on "Don't Body Yourself."

It's really not. Even by Kendrick's standards some of these hooks are down right corny.

When he dropped real everyone called the hook corny. He drops an album full of real esque hooks and its generational.
