Theres 4 tracks without drums and 2 tracks with only kicks and subtle snare rolls for transition.
Thats the thing. I still don't feel this album is bad. I spent a lot of time playing it the first few weeks. But for an album to really go down as a classic, especially in modern times and in hip-hop, I think it has to have an element of easy listening to it. And this album isn't an easy listen. Not enough strong catchy hooks, too many bare bones on the production end, and really heavy content.
indeed, because most classic albums are based on how easy they are to listen to, yes
-the new mercedes in black
-im a killer, he's a killer
-early morning wakeups
-love is talking
-cant please everybody
-love when you count me out
-shit on my mind and it's heavy
-i choose me im sorry
-are you happy for me?
i meeeeeean
And this list doesn’t even include Die Hard and Purple Hearts lol
I can kinda see this with N95
I would even argue it doesn’t fit the album stylistically (lyrically it does though)
Drake stans posting this even though his last album with 21 had the worst production I’ve heard all year with those cheap ass drums
Good one
What about the production is “dated” ain’t like he’s rappin over DJ Mustard beats from ‘14
Production just sounds bland, best way to describe it. N95 sounds like a YouTube type beat.
His life from what man like 15 years ago?? Dude is a millionaire now that lives in luxury you telling me he still talking about compton shootouts?
Who are your favorite rappers, specifically modern ?

Yea. We're in the streaming era. You can listen to any song you want at a whim at any time. The industry is saturated af. If you want your album to stand the test of time, it has to be extra special. It has to stand out against every other thing being released, and it better f***ing BECKON to be heard again.
Easy listening is a key component of replay value. Theres a reason most hit songs are simple. Easy to listen to, easy to sing along with. These are qualities that get songs stuck in people's heads.
This is the modern industry, like it or not. I love that Mr. Morale had deep cuts on it. I hate that most albums these days are just a compilation of hit single attempts. But the proof is in the pudding. The masses didn't respond well to this album, and there's a reason for it.

Social media was full of people s***ting on the album, saying how disappointed they were. It was a whole ass thing of people calling it mid. That was definitely the public narrative.
Even just go to the first page of this site and look at which posts have the most likes.

A lot of people listened to it because its Kendrick Lamar. And he's got a deep loyal fanbase, like myself, who ran thru the whole album at least 10 times. Doesn't change the overall public narrative on the album tho.
