bro u know they be removing s*** for no reason right
Ofc, but what's the difference between that and a movie/album being taken off of store shelves in the 80s?
When Kubrick pulled A Clockwork Orange out of UK theatres, you could only really watch it by pirating it
Same thing with films and music on streaming sites now, except you can replicate that file an infinite number of times, versus then being bound by the number of VHS tapes or DVD-RWs you have
you sound like he hit a nerve
I just don’t like losers. No one wants to buy NAS’s and back up monoliths of media when you can literally just buy it.
You know what kind of publications are going to replace everyone with AI? Conde Nast ones like Pitchfork and GQ. Sports Illustrated which you're still mourning somehow.
You know what won't be AI? Artisanal creators on platforms like Substack, Patreon, Youtube, etc
lol wow people are somehow upset that brands they grew up on have been slowly destroyed by mass media companies and private equity firms as everything continues to get s***tier, can you believe it?

Brother you aren't reading Sports Illustrated and all the people on this website did was call Pitchfork dogshit for years
Pretending to mourn this s*** is so performative. Mourn Gaza
Tell me how spotify or apple deciding a certain artist shouldnt be on they platform effecting my iTunes library I’ve had since 2009 playa?
When Snoop Dogg took all of Death Row biggest catalog off of streaming because of NFTs for a week guess who wasn’t tripping? Niggas that bought Doggystyle/any of their works and had it in their homes.
When one of the best rap groups of all time weren’t put on streaming for a decade because of label/sample issues? I had already gotten the 1st 4 de la soul albums on my itunes lol.
It dont gotta be extinction level events that f*** up streaming, which is the scary part imo.
That's exactly my point bro
Digital is 1000% more efficient for archiving stuff than physical.
My uncle gave me a copy of All Eyez on Me like 10 years ago. That's now scratched to a point where the songs sound chopped and screwed, but the mp3s I ripped still play perfectly
If people are really interested in supporting artists they should be getting stuff off Bandcamp or iTunes anyway
Read the other day that the creator economy will be a 4 billion dollar industry by the year 2027. This suggest to me that power is siphoning off of major conglomerates and back towards the individual creatives. This is part of the reason why streaming numbers in general are dwindling, Theaters are struggling, and music sales are down. People are watching YouTube, reels, and TikTok’s. The future of this industry and the entertainment industry at large will be much more niche I predict and yes, physical media will have a place in that. This change was inevitable all things considered

the celebration was corny too
no one cares about critics on here, yet they were coming out of the floorboards like roaches to s*** on them lol
no one cares about critics on here, but the threads that get the most traction on here typically about newer artists, usually have some sort of Complex/Pitchfork adjacent mention or review attached to their music
they don’t even know what they want on here

that's fair
i suppose the concern for me is that streaming services being as popular as they are has given them more power wrt the type of media that can be available at any given time.
but that's gradually shifting as well
When was the last time you didn't have access to the internet? For any significant amount of time. You've got a wireless carrier, an ISP, and McWifi every square mile in America lol.
These doomsday scenarios to justify buying merch records is so silly.
theyre art pieces, theyre cool, u can have them forever
I wouldn’t be surprised if the entertainment industry itself will cease to exist in the next 5-10 years

easy, I coulda bought them s***s before they took em off the shelves
You comparing this to Kubrick (who also only did that because it was claimed the movie was responsible for copycat violence over there) is disingenious

And it’s gonna be replaced with what exactly? That’s just an absolutely insane thing to say.

It wasn't available in the UK on VHS at all until the 90s... the distributors had as much power to pull stuff then as they do now. It's not as if you could go online and buy a US version back then either. This also wasn't an isolated incident
I get the point you all are making but it's a streaming vs 'ownership' question, not digital vs physical
It'll be a different story if/when the iTunes store shuts and things are 100% streaming, but that's not the case atm
And it’s gonna be replaced with what exactly? That’s just an absolutely insane thing to say.
It will be replaced with the content creation industry and influencers will be the new celebrities
People are realizing how corporate the Entertainment industry is so they’re slowly moving away from consuming it. Plus the quality has dropped significantly in the past 10 years
that's fair

yeah this is definitely a present issue
thing is, i think the avg consumer isn't likely to care bc they're not interested in the music this could affect
the people who would care (the type of people who are on KTT / musictwt / RYM) know where to find stuff if they want to
how that impacts discoverability for smaller artists is a hugeee problem though fs. but again that's what those platforms I mentioned are for

Tik Tok is the new Hollywood?
