    post any tips, resources, etc.

    Places to send your music:

    • submithub (can get you to blogs, playlists, and social media influencers. free, but premium options get you faster results).
    • repostexchange (soundcloud based promo platform, free but premium options get you faster results)
    • twitch streamers (go to the music sxn, look for people doing live feedback / reactions)

    Youtube channels:

    • andrew southworth
    • burstimo
    • brandman network
    • damian keyes
    • tom dupree III

    Reading material:

    • "All You Need To Know About the Music Business: 10th Edition" by Donald S. Passman

    Ways to get paid

    • Song streams
    • Sync licensing
    • Live performances
    • Merchandise
    • Patreon / OnlyFans type of service w/ exclusive content
    • Digital / physical album sales

    General advice:

    • if someone you don't know calls or dms you offering to "boost your stream" and guarantee you streams or followers, that is most likely a scam
    • generally recommended for artists just starting out to focus on releasing singles consistently to help grow your fanbase.
    • make sure you can keep in communication with your fanbase. personally i recommend focusing on the social media platform you enjoy the most and use that. but also i've heard that creating an email list is super super helpful. you can use something like mailchimp to do that i believe.

Networking is suuuuuuper important too, keep that going ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ. Might even be the most important factor, giving that personal touch to interactions w/ potential people who'd support what you're doing.

glad i can provide some value to you. we gotta get these streams and get to this money fr we all too talented to be sitting on what we got and not fr pushing it. one of the biggest mistakes i made starting out was just dropping s*** and magically expecting people to flock to it.

I honestly think some great things can happen from this forum from meshing some artists sound together. Everyone having their publishing and BMI right is the first tho if anyone is serious. But itโ€™ll be dope collaborating but collaborate on all aspects... the art work for the song, video maybe, stream platforms, song credits... the aesthetic vision. Not just about throwing a song in SC.... we have to attack all aspects.

any difference between publishing and BMI? i been registering all my work with BMI but unsure if that was just performance rights or publishing as well

Burstimo is great. Learned a lot from them.

havent finished this book yet but its been really informative, been taking notes in the notes app on it

any difference between publishing and BMI? i been registering all my work with BMI but unsure if that was just performance rights or publishing as well

from what i understand BMI runs 100/100 artist/publishing (200 total split) vs ASCAPs 50/50. so if you are registered only as an artist on BMI, and have a song you produced/wrote entirely, you'll be missing out on 50% of whatever royalities from not having registered a publisher

    • someone feel free to correct me if im wrong too, im still learning for sure

im not sure either like ^ but from my understanding, BMI is a PRO and someone like Songtrust is a publishing administrator. on the flip side you can sign up for BMI through Songtrust which is what i plan on doing when i release

Any producers here have any experience w/ selling beats w/ social media? ๐Ÿค”

Im trying it soon w/ a producer friend as a test run

  • I signed up to BMI as a song writer and publisher so I publish my own music when I drop it on DSPโ€™s

There was a $150 fee and contract agreement for publishing.
