    this playlist s*** is stupid

you mean i gotta wait a f***ing month for my favorite track to go live just so spotify can get around to placing my s*** places. man i want this s*** out NOW

That’s if you want a chance at getting put on editorial playlists specifically. Those playlists are your best shot at taking off, but they’re pretty exclusive

Not going to knock your hustle but I think the frustration comes from playing within the rules of streaming services. As much as tips are good, If you are serious about marketing ANYTHING, playing the game is good but be a big stepper. MOD that s***.
Do what others aren't while also doing what they are type shxt
    What are you really wanting?
What is the difference between 1k, 2k,5k streams.
    Are you building a fanbase?
I think social media should be seen as strictly tools by artists, It's all I've seen it as for years and it always pays off.

Use f***ing TIKTOK, Get booked for shows, Get people to pay you just to f***ing exist and show up. Being a public artist is like pro wrestling, There is a persona you are selling, Your music is the imprint of your artistry of which you (hopefully) pull from the great void of creativity, F*** streams.
Get your money, establish yourself on platforms, Be real, do stunts but not corny bullshit that compromises your image or art (Look at Kanye for good and bad examples of this, He is a performance artist)

Have y’all tried finding influencers and then getting them to use your music on like Tik Tok?

I’ve heard some success stories but not sure much they’d charge. I feel like of course the huge accounts would cost a lot but I feel like all you need is like a mid size one

    post any tips, resources, etc.

    Places to send your music:
    • submithub (can get you to blogs, playlists, and social media influencers. free, but premium options get you faster results).
    • repostexchange (soundcloud based promo platform, free but premium options get you faster results)
    • twitch streamers (go to the music sxn, look for people doing live feedback / reactions)
    Youtube channels:
    • andrew southworth
    • burstimo
    • brandman network
    • damian keyes
    • tom dupree III
    Reading material:
    • "All You Need To Know About the Music Business: 10th Edition" by Donald S. Passman
    Ways to get paid
    • Song streams
    • Sync licensing
    • Live performances
    • Merchandise
    • Patreon / OnlyFans type of service w/ exclusive content
    • Digital / physical album sales
    General advice:
    • if someone you don't know calls or dms you offering to "boost your stream" and guarantee you streams or followers, that is most likely a scam
    • generally recommended for artists just starting out to focus on releasing singles consistently to help grow your fanbase.
    • make sure you can keep in communication with your fanbase. personally i recommend focusing on the social media platform you enjoy the most and use that. but also i've heard that creating an email list is super super helpful. you can use something like mailchimp to do that i believe.

Probably not the place for this, but released my fully self produced album this past weekend. Some cosmic soul. Frank Ocean meets Bon Iver meets Madlib.

    Have a listen if you're interested! open.spotify.com/album/6mirmPUjC47isMJgc0LdKe?si=4gpRSukyRUSFK6mntZtzrQ

Gotta start somewhere my dude. I remember breaking 100 and being stoked - been stuck in the 400 range lately and that’s felt like purgatory lol. Just broke 600 and I’m hyped, but in time I’ll be mad that we haven’t hit 1000. All about perspective

Keep grinding, sending out to blogs, doing live shows, promoting on social media, and follow the tips ITT and you should see growth

    Hit 3k earlier this month

I also know a guy who blew up on Tik Tok. I hate using the app though lol but it is probably the most important app for promotion rn

Soundcloud algorithm promotes songs based on plays but also if the song is actively being played its far more likely to be promoted. Like for some reason the number of plays a song has doesnt matter as much as whether or not youre actively listening to the song. I noticed if i play a song like 10 times ill get around 10 plays from other people, but once i stop playing it the plays slow down considerably. This means buying plays is effectively useless based on how the plays work. If they just surge your track and play it 1000 times in the span of 10 minutes you wont get s*** out of it rly. It has to be sustained plays over a longer period of time. This might only be true for the low play bracket tho idk

Youtube is a whole different game. Youtube is ALL about plays and likes. If you get plays and likes, your whole channel gets promoted. That means if u buy plays and likes, you will see way more traffic. The problem with this is it only lasts for a few days. A few days after the plays come in, if u dont have high traffic normally your account will see much less traffic and youll fall down the rankings again. So u can either continuously buy plays, or take advantage of the period immediately after you buy plays

Ik some might ask themselves "isnt buying plays lame/cheating?" It depends on how you do it. Just buying plays is stupid. It wont do anything for you and it will make u look like a clown. Buying PROMO is veeeery different. This will get you actual listeners, reposts, ads, etc. Thats where u wanna put ur money. Everyone does this in some fashion whether they pay or not so its rly nothing to be ashamed of.

Join organizations like the MLC, Nsai, AIMP, etc
These organizations have webinars were you can get tons of insider info and meet many other big time publishers, execs, producers, etc in the music industry.
Building relationships with these people is a huge help. The music industry is a who you know industry even if youre independent
