All music deserves to be on a free public streaming service that would form as a library of archiving human art. Artists should be incentivised to put their music on there.

Of course you would still have other platforms to pay artists/own the music for life (itunes/bandcamp/spotify/apple music).

It would be governmentally regulated/moderated by people that care. You'd have a "library card" that allows you to own the music for a certain time.

The archival of art is extremely important to me but thats a topic for another day.

That’s an interesting idea! A public streaming service, almost like a "music library," could really democratize access to art and ensure that it's preserved for future generations. The concept of a "library card" to borrow music temporarily is creative and could be a good middle ground between free access and supporting artists.

The archival aspect you mentioned is key. There's a lot of value in preserving all forms of human creativity. The incentive structure for artists would need to strike a balance, but as you said, other platforms could still offer ways for fans to own music permanently or support artists directly. It's a thought-provoking topic—lots to unpack there!

    It’s a business

Give me a reason a label should opt to lose out on revenue and put the music up for free

I think the artists get the short end of the stick.

Think about an artist like Summrs who isn’t mainstream but still can make enough to support himself and is independent. What benefit does he have for putting his music on the service for free?

His music being archived would already be done via his fanbase

they should put it up for free so that it will always be available for people to listen to.

who's to say these labels last forever? do you trust them to take care of their artists' music properly?

im saying ALL artists' music should be archived even the ones who don't have fanbases

my public streaming service would not be the only one, all the other ways to support artists would still be available so artists would still get paid

Why would anyone use a traditional DSP like Spotify or Apple Music when your proposed system is free?
