no. the album was polarizing at most. he was not crucified. i saw wayyy more hate for yeezus than 808s. 808s for the most part was well recieved and loved even. yes initially people were taken aback at the musical direction but its extremely revisionist to say he was crucified for 808s
you have no idea what you're talking about

i was there for the whole thing in 2008. was right in front of the tv when the love lockdown video premiered on 106&park. you looking back too harshly. maybe hood niggas and casual too cool for school niggas crucified him but for the most part 808s was loved when it dropped mayne these jus facts
Fr? I never heard something like that until 2016 at least
Maybe I’m using “common” a bit loosely but yeah man in the 2010s Atlanta scene those “do lots of d**** and party” songs with that tone had been well established
This track from a 1994 SNES game is lowkey the first Grime beat
toro y moi is so f***ing good
jai paul legit an alien or sumn niggas still tryna catch up to s*** he was doing 10+ years ago
You’re exposing yourself
why dont yall go back and read the reviews since yall clearly werent around or maybe not old enough to really know 808s was not a hated album and kanye was not crucified for it wtf is yall on right now?
every serious music fan at the time knew that man had jus advanced the culture in a real way.

There wasn’t a platform for a lot of “serious music” fans back then. That doesn’t become a huge thing until a year or two later. 808s fans were clowned and Kanye was constantly called gay and stuff. People thought he sold out making pop esque music. This is coming off the universally accepted Graduation too so you could imagine how left this was. Just go look at old forums discussing the album. It wasn’t until like 2011 that 808s was starting to get love amongst the general public.
