In a weird twisted way this was calling back to the 90’s while also providing the blueprint for this new generation

    Genuinely a goat poster 🥲

    On point as usual

There wasn’t a platform for a lot of “serious music” fans back then. That doesn’t become a huge thing until a year or two later. 808s fans were clowned and Kanye was constantly called gay and stuff. People thought he sold out making pop esque music. This is coming off the universally accepted Graduation too so you could imagine how left this was. Just go look at old forums discussing the album. It wasn’t until like 2011 that 808s was starting to get love amongst the general public.

bruh you talking about your uncles and some niggas you went to school with calling him gay and saying he sold out, that was NOT general consensus. on a wide scale 808s was a fully revered album by 2009. i dont know how old you were or where you were at fam. i was a music fiend in the middle of high school and everybody knew he was on some next level s*** bruh right out the gate. yes it was left field, yes it was unexpected but he pulled it off which is why its so coveted. i don't know how else to explain this. and for you to say 808s didn't start getting love till 2011??? thats insane

I was deadass in high school in the bronx when it came out bro and what you’re saying is not true. The general public did not like 808s at all when it came out. It took some time for the general public to warm up to it. It’s one of the reasons why he even made Dark Fantasy lmao

Ehhhhhh I guess, but even then I still remember so many niggas was still wanting Ye to go back into rap form.

Also Ye had a really strong following around that time coming off of Graduation, so he was revered as a top dawg in the game. So his fans at the time were probably still going strong support Ye and the album.

The album is common now, but at the time, it was an "WTF Moment".
