    mr get dough

One of my fav kendrick songs ever bc its one of his most relatable

That’s why I laugh at these fake hood niggas that claim Kendrick makes music for “suburbans”. If you from the environments Kendrick is from and you stayed out the way it’s no way you can’t relate to bro’s story

  • AvenueJones

The narratives are “Nobody wanna hear that lyrical lyrical s***” and then when he drops a GNX and have fun wit it, now it’s he ain’t lyrical enough

Which honestly doesn’t even make sense because the writing on reincarnated is top top tier

  • I love how laid back and chill both nas and Kendrick are when they speak but when it’s time for them to drop music and you hear them rap they shake up the whole game then go low key again.

That’s what Nas used to do when he was a multi platinum selling artist like Kendrick is.

back when he was just a alcoholic and not a rich alcoholic

I don’t think I’ve heard average joe, heard all the others. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t find many of them engaging for some reason.

How much a dollar cost is probably my least favourite track on TPAB.

Is momma really considered story telling track?

I like Sherane. Sing about me I absolutely f***ing hate.

There are just so many people I’d put over Kendrick with regards story telling. Nas, Big, GFK, Scarface, even DMX tbh

  • Jbreezyondeck

Wish we could just stop the x is better than y and just enjoy the music

Comparison is the thief of joy, but it's the main engagement tool on this site.

I mean no one is as debating between them both lol

Kendrick is massively overrated in the grand scheme of things, and of course he’s not on Nas level, but he’s probably the best artist of this last generation and will probably be in the top 10-20 discussion when all is said and done

  • mos def

There are a lot of better lyricists than Kendrick

Lyricism is only one component of a good song tho

Edit: Kendrick ain’t no slouch tho. He flooded 6:16 with triple/quadruple entendres like it was light work

yes nas is a better lyricist than kendrick

  • Nas is the best rapper of all time like Kanye said he pre ordained though Kendrick up there too so whoever naming five rappers than him overall most likely to be cap..
Nas is better than Dot fact Nas better than Jay fact too though Dot better than Jay Dot better than Stacks Wayne Lupe Em Jada Pac Big all them Dot got like 2/3 classics and any of them aint

  • AvenueJones

My biggest pet peeve surrounding the discourse is that there is more to being lyrical than punchlines and metaphors. There is lyricism in songwriting where Kendrick shines, you don’t have to bar someone out to be “lyrical”

    Agreed brother

  • I'd disagree

  • And Denzel is a better actor than Michael b Jordan f*** is your point OP?

  • Nas might be the best lyricist out of anyone but he dropped multiple albums with WOAT production

  • OwO

    Drop your Top 30 @op

  • Obviously

  • If op says styles P or fab better lyrically than k dot

  • Better artist too

You can’t name 30 better rappers

DOOM, Black Thought, Andre 3,000, Mos Def, Rakim, Raekwon, Ghostface, GZA, KRS, Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, Jay Electronica, Roc Marci, Mach-Hommy, Rome Streetz, Conway The Machine, Big L, Lupe, Aesop Rock, Pharoahe Monch, Prodigy, Planet Asia, Guru, Scarface, Wayne, Pun, Method Man, Royce da 5'9"

Kendrick's body of work & overall technicality is what makes him great though.

But he's far from the best lyricist oat.

    Respectable list

One critique I would add is some of them lack the longevity and consistency that Kendrick has-although their peaks were extremely strong.

For example, Mos Def is my favorite of all time but I’d argue that his peak was relatively short and never quite outdid the Black Star/Black on Both sides era, which includes his historic feature run.

There’s an argument that Kendrick is rapping better now than his debut era which is rare for an MC to do 10+ years into their careers. I would consider that into the criteria of an elite lyricist
