those are considered cult classics. real rap niggas, real artists and s***.
that is for sure not going to get pushed in the mainstream.
Just more guns, big titties, d****, etc
no street disciple type rapper
none of that s***
hip hop is too commercialized nowadays for that s***
J.Cole era probably the end of the mainstream street disciple
......Yeah anyway Smino and Saba annoying and I can do without them.
This thread just reminds me of when niggas was clowning everyone in the Yachty era and giving them niggas nothing but s*** on the radio (remember "uzi rap over a premier beat" ) and meanwhile they was creating a whole new different lane.
niggas is just out of touch, and it's fine to just admit that.
If you say so
he too talented to be mainstream imo. JID the same way. they don't market as well. as DaBaby (Big black dude)

I feel like that's a sub-genre of hip hop that was created. nothing wrong with that.
it started more with Kanye West...

I mean niggas like lil baby really do be rapping rapping tho
I think a lot of people judge the autotune and the melody and disregard the lyrics a lot of these trap niggas is saying. There's a BIG difference between these new trap rappers and the OJ Da Juiceman and Waka days (shoutout to waka, hometown legend even tho he was born in NY lol)

Smino/Saba/JID are probably the most lyrical rappers of the new era.
I ain't gonna force it and crown them or anything, but idk what to tell you
f*** off
suck a d***
Look man I be seeing folk recommend niggas like Smino, Saba, Guapdad 4000, Baby Keem, Roddy Ricch, etc as the new rappers worth listening to all the time and whenever I peep that s*** is either trash or I'm left wholly unimpressed and forget about them.
Smino/Saba/JID are probably the most lyrical rappers of the new era.

JID is the only one of those three I like and even then I'm hardly compelled to keep up with dude.

yea two different styles of the game for sure. there's a certain technical display that is lacking. GNAT for example is a technical display.

we not doing this lol. What does technical display mean? Metaphors? Similes? These young niggas do that too. Plus can do it in with a melody.
And plus how many times do you wanna listen to GNAT?
The EP was the most recent project that dropped.
Annnnnnd it got barely no promo from the media, even though Gucci Peacoat probably the best Dababy song outside of Intro ( @BigDckBandit back me up on this )
this why I hate media pushing this "hip hop today is bad" narrative like...bitch yall niggas out of touch lol.
That and the title track fasho
need to give that project another spin soon. It’s so slept on and it’s everything haters want from Baby.
Speaking of checking out artists, I’ve never really listened to DaBaby outside of his hits. I’ve been DaBabysitting on the sidelines
You got AM? I can cook you up a small playlist of the Baby songs I’m rocking with hard atm.
critical acclaim literally comes from exposure lol.
Whatever y'all know what the f*** I mean

Yup I got AM

I know what you mean. I'm just telling you critical acclaim only comes from how big a spotlight you already got.

Eminem's Rap God is a prime example of technical display...but that's overkill...
JID and J. Cole on Off Deez show comfort in different pockets, switch cadences on a whim, and employ multisyllabic rhyme schemes, etc...
The prosody/melody of modern records is something else imo
it's more legato if that makes sense.
I know what you mean. I'm just telling you critical acclaim only comes from how big a spotlight you already got.
I see. Well breakthrough artist. I guess Keem is that right now.
Lots of great music coming out but in terms of rapping skill and lyricism eh yeah he really doesn't have that much young competition. The standards for what make a great hip hop artist are shifting all the time.
