Just turned on this mid. I’m glad I’m not a fan cuz I woulda been hurt.
I truly wonder why it’s so hard to do.
This s*** is mega flat... like every uninspired writing/directing choice possible. God bless.
Once it goes to Omashu it’s kind of a mess of trying to blend too many things together
and this is basically all before Aang meets Bumi
This ain't as bad as some people making it out to be. Then again, it's also far from great. As a fan of the og I'd give this a light 6.
Some of the casting choices are questionable:
Aang's acting is meh.
Azula's actor is just too cute looking compared to the bad b**** psycho she was originally portrayed as. Acting wise she's aight tho.
Uncle Iroh feels a bit miscast. Can't lay my finger on it with him, but his portrayal is off.
But there's also bright spots:
Zuko's actor is amazing imo.
Zhao is good.
Ozai is also great
Sokka is good too.
As for the story, as everyone else has already noticed, they're trying to do too much within these episodes. It feels very rushed, even though the runtime is very close to that of the original cartoon. I guess it's also the overal direction. It's also not like I expect to be just like the original, but even in it's own way, it's really just far from being as good as the original.
All in all, I still enjoyed it for what it is, and I hope that a possible 2nd season will just have much better direction.

I think it's the combination of 'mature but not edgy' writing as a whole and really really well-written characters in particular. the world itself kinda makes more sense when its animation too, we knew all that bending would probably look stupid in real life
finally im not really sure how much stuff post-TLA is creators actually wanting to go somewhere with their universe and what is paycheck stuff

I’ve always hovered around it but never fully dove in. I’m aware of the lore pretty well.
plus, since I was a kid, I was writing stories that focused on kids using the elements like this and I always felt that Avatar jacked me lol

fair points. I chalk it all up to the check.

Man stop watching the live action and watch the og
Shame on u!

lol I swear I will one day
This is what I needed it to be tbh
It wasn’t a 1:1 retelling but still stayed true to the storyline
The fighting & costumes stayed true to the show
The effects were great for a Netflix show
I’m not concerned about the pacing because they did great in under 10 episodes with everything they had to cover, it’s unrealistic to expect a grand number of episodes like the cartoon
The only real draw back imo is the acting & character for Aang
Aang in the cartoon had some goofiness & even more confidence than the one portrayed in the show so far. This Aang seems very one dimensional
Already cried 2 times like 3 eps in. This is everything I wanted from it even if its not Game Of Thrones level
Sokka crush just as hot as the cartoon version

Iroh shouldve been fatter
Some of these story changes are odd (koh, spirit world) they're cramming a lot of stuff they don't even need to be in this season.
Episode 6 is really good tho, zuko actor nails it. Wish the rest of the show follows suit with this episode
