Fine I'll do it!
The biggest take away from this album overall is that love is multifaceted. Love is not infatuation, love is not lust. Love can be difficult and ugly. But love is also persevering. Throughout this Common Discusses and ponders love being tested by infidelity, love for his mother, estranged daughter, the genre of which he creates in, and himself. Loosely based off a book of his, this is an R&B album with rap verses. This album contains a beautiful simplicity, but it also frustrates me, because this album had serious potential to be one of his best. Don’t get me wrong, the majority is very good. But to me, It doesn’t quite reach the benchmark. For example, “Hercules” doesn’t fit on this album at all. I know Common was probably looking for something more commercial as a single. But this album overall, isnt meant to be viewed as that. This album is a sentimental, gentle and sensitive piece. And there is nothing wrong with that. I just wish that been committed to all the way. I love some of this album though. The sequel to “I Used To Love HER” with Daniel Ceaser produced by the Late Jay Dee is a wonderful track. “Fifth Story” is a great storytelling track about a women slowly discovering his man cheating on her. “Show Me That You Love” with Jill Scott was another one of those Common tracks that hit me unexpectedly and it made me emotional. I think this album is quite good. I just think it could’ve been one of his best. But I also understand that Common Is not in his prime anymore. A lot of his career is in the rearview. And if we continue to get albums on this level in the future, I will be satisfied.
Final Score: 7.5/10
Favorite Songs: HER Love, Fifth Story, Memories Of Home & Show Me That You Love
Least Favorite Songs: Hercules

Wiz was nice until mid 2010s
Today I’m going out DoorDashing and listening to his thirteenth and fourteenth album.
I’ll give you guys the final review when I’m done.
The best way to describe the album would be like this. If “Black America Again” and “Electric Circus” had a baby, it would be this. This is a double album released separately, inspired by the protests of 2020. Containing a mix of dreamy optimism and simmering rage, with profound poems recited by various female poets. Female singer PJ heavily feature here, on 11 of the 20 tracks. Her contributions are really nice and she reminds me of SZA in tone and voice, if SZA chose to enunciate. We are also blessed with 2 Black Thought features here. The album was a mixed bag, more positive than negative. Common for the most part, has gotten comfortable and appears to be on cruise control when he’s rapping. He’s still good, but it’s also clear that he’s plateaued and he’s probably just going to chill in this lane from now on. The strongest aspects of this album in my opinion, is the instrumentation itself. While there are some messy moments throughout, the majority of it is beautiful. A couple like “Say Peace” just didn’t hit me like the rest. It sounded like both Black Thought and Common were trying to find their pocket throughout and never really found it. Perhaps it was just a little too much for me musically. On the contrary, tracks like “Courageous”, “When We Move”, and “Set It Free” are great songs. They stay with me, and that’s how I know the message has been executed correctly. The album is good length and doesn’t feel too long, but I also think if this album have been cut down to a single album, it would’ve been in the discussion of top Common but as is, It’s still pretty good.
Final Score: 7/10
Favorite Songs: Courageous, When We Move & Set It Free
Least Favorite Songs: Say Peace
