Just an experiment that didn’t work. Instead of mulling over it like chance the rapper or something, he just kept it moving gracefully and dropped a fantastic album after that.
@op how do you want Common to move from here? His last 5 albums were with Karriem Riggins. While they made nothing but quality together I'm bored. Hope he lays off the live instruments and gets on raw boom bap prod again.

Something completely different. He’s become complacent musically and at this point in his career, he’s still dropping quality but as you said, it’s getting boring and formulatic.
I’d like to see Common get back with No I.D honestly and do something more in vein of Nobody’s Smiling. Where it’s more of a mainstream take but it’s still true to Commons character. I think that switch up was good for him. And I think he still has it in him.

Yeah another one with No I.D. would be dope. Ideally Kanye but we know how busy his schedule is.
An album with Hit Boy would be a banger. The cool thing about Hit Boy imo is he goes back and studies the artist's greatest moments and emulates them + adds something new that the artist has never tried before.

Ye and him I just don’t think are on that wavelength anymore. I think there’s a reason why Ye didn’t produce on The Dreamer/The Believer and it wasn’t simply because he wasn’t available. Any album they do together would automatically be compared to “Be” and that’s not fair.
Hit-Boy would definitely be cool for sure and after hearing “Magic” I think Common would definitely work over something like that.
Ultimately at this point, I don’t even know if Common has any interest in going outside of his box. He’s made 5 albums all with a pretty similar sound (Aside from Let Love, which was his take on classic R&B with hip-hop)

Last year he said he regrets not having done another album with Kanye during that timeframe in 2005-2007 but also doesn't rule out the possibility of that in the future
So it's all up to Ye I think, Idk when was the last time they hung out together, I would've loved a Common feat on Jesus Is King or DONDA
S***, Kanye said on Drink Champs that Common is "a thousand times better rapper" than Talib

Obviously that was just Ye’s response to Talib gossiping about him, but I mean he’s not really wrong. Common at his peak can f*** with the best. He’s not to be messed with as a rapper. He’s obviously very very respected by the community for a reason. He put In the work.

I definitely like Common more than Talib as well but true lol
Com also has that street side to him, he's less backpacker-y than Talib IMO

Don’t get me wrong, Common has had some f***ing corny s*** in the past. His first album, parts of Resurrection, UMC etc.
But I think ultimately above all, he’s just a honest dude. He has a lot of integrity.

Common would've spitted on Jesus Is King
Idk how I didn't think of that he's a whole preacher
