it just feels like you dismiss the importance of the conversation kendrick’s trying to have here when you say stuff like “when it comes to creativity”.

Like it’s more than being creative when it comes to this imo. One of my favorite movies of all time is The House that Jack Built and that also acts as a study on the meaning of art and its relationship to the consumer.

He spoke on the idea of art being a separate entity than the artist in a more poignant way than I’ve ever heard another rapper address it. Framing art as a human being and speaking directly from its perspective as if it’s a living breathing person is brilliant because it makes you see it in a different light, relate to it on a human level, and truly feel guilty for slandering it or delegitimizing it based on the actions of its creator. It would be like coming at somebody and s***ting on them for terrible things that their parents did.
He didn’t just do it to be creative, it is actually a crazy effective way to express his idea behind the relationship of art to artist. And the way he had a direct conversation with the consumers in the 3rd verse was fantastic

I don’t understand why you being pretentious about it, that was a pretty eye opening set of verses

He’s not literally teaching you s*** but my fav thing about kendrick is when he gives me new perspectives on topics like that

Well that’s you reading too deep into it cus there wasn’t a tone. If anything it was on me for taken it too literal that’s why I said “man the song fire and creative but I didn’t learn anything new”

I meant that literally cus I already knew of MJ’s history and the importance of separating art from the human even tho it doesn’t happen. And also the history of MLK.

It’s not dismissing the song being fire that’s why I said it is. It was me just being literal to your “man I feel like I came out of this learning something”......like knowledge wise what did you actually learn.

And the Nas comment wasn’t dismissive either. Kendrick is a fan of Nas. Nas influenced a creative way to do storytelling and rapping from something else’s perspective. This song is the same formula as “I gave you power” done in Kendrick’s own creative way.
