Fully agree, the disconnect is pretty insane. This idea of the "free architect" that can just design whatever he wants is still so prevalent.
Newest pickup, USM Haller cabinet from the original production run. Ca. 1970-1987
USM Haller is a modular furniture system conceived by the Swiss architect Fritz Haller. At the beginning of the 1960s he was commissioned to redesign the office building of USM, a maker of locks and window frames. The furniture that went along with the building was not initially intended to be produced commercially. It was only after visitors started requesting it for their own companies that commercial production picked up. Since then there have been numerous small innovations but the overarching idea of modularity has prevailed.

William Nicholson was the architect
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Flintstone_House
"It was constructed by spraying shotcrete onto steel rebar and wire mesh frames over inflated aeronautical balloons.5 It has approximately 2,700 sq ft (250 m2) of living space including three bedrooms, one accessed via a spiral staircase inspired by an icecream cone that at the top is the same diameter as the room, and two bathrooms, and has a two-car garage.5 All the interior surfaces are rounded, and the master bathroom has a floor of rocks instead of tiles.6 Originally off-white in color, the house was repainted deep orange in 2000,5 and one of the domes was later painted purple."
baan dam museum:
used to be the home of notable thai artist thawan duchanee until his passing, was then converted to a museum for him after his passing
his art has a lot of buddhist and animal themes:
his home is made up of 40 different buildings in different sizes and designs, but are generally unified by a shared traditional northern thai architectural principle and a super dark color palette
and serves as #inspo for his art

Architects are some of the most clueless people I deal with on a regular basis. Makes me question what qualifications one needs to become one.
