It’s funny that people try and posit that we live in an era where the listener chooses what they’re hearing, as opposed to being force fed whatever’s popular via radio, but the same exact thing is happening now, just in the form of playlisting

mfs supporting this is the reason music has declined so much and we’re in the fast food era

music industry was much more of a meritocracy before this nonsense

Why do yall spit this ahistorical narrative that music was somehow this pure and free artistic paradise free from financial influence prior to the streaming era?

Yeah I Could never get into the idea of just hopping in the whip and letting an Apple or Spotify curated playlist roll lol

Which is why I hate the argument that Spotify is better because they “curate better playlists”

The whole point of streaming services should be giving the listener complete control of what they’re hearing, not boardroom curated mixes of whatever the company thinks is worth listening to at the moment

The music business has always been built on the large powers that be conditioning the masses on what to listen to, what's good, who's the next star, etc.

The idea that that process was ever organic has been and always will be a huge fallacy.

Streaming is just another, new way that that process is taking place.

I mean, the reality is that most people do not want to pick their own music and playlists, which makes curated playlists pretty important

Yeah, and that’s defeating what made streaming so special at its’ onset in my opinion

We’re right back to the radio days, they’re just called playlists now

Paying $20 a month is crazy might as well go back to piracy.

New music isn't boring. The algorithmically selected music that gets put on people's playlist is boring.

Real music enjoyers have been absolutely FEASTING this year

No, mainstream music is BORING since the pandemic started and the casuals don't go that deep like that for new music and thats completely ok and normal. Not everyone is the whole day on music related forums.

    Mainstream died three years ago

    it also changes genres

  • Oct 14, 2022

Honestly I just love every so often just relaxing and just going on a deep dive into blogs, forums & magazines to find new artists and albums. The spoon feeding of music is cool and works for 99% of people but the fun and joy for me personally has always been doing it independently.

    Also, Apple Music >
