Saying "chair" instead of "chairman" makes sense?
Also I'm not white lol
And you decided to avoid thoughtcrime and doublethink cause you know you have no counter-arguments
You didn’t really expand enough on doublethink or thoughtcrime to warrant a response imo.
Kids have always disowned parents (or been disowned by them), run away from home (or been kicked out of home) you just wouldn’t have been aware because they didn’t have a theoretically global platform on which to share it
Every time I read one of your posts I think holy s*** this guy is f***ing annoying and I look up and its always synopsis pretending he's smart and saying nothing
Can't stand dumb people who act like smart asses all the time, synop been like this for 4 years at least since that's how long I know of him
yeah OP i finished high-school too
We didn't read it when I was in high school my guy so I read it just a few months ago tbh

What you're saying is correct but I'm not exactly pointing at the kids who would get mad at their parents and it results in them leaving home or smtn, what I mean is literally kids denouncing their parents for having different political views as it can be seen recently A LOT. There has to be a line where you just can't stand your parents at all, whether they're harrassing a kid in some way or doing something else that affects their kid in a negative and so the kid wants to leave, that's a big problem right there. But that's not what I'm talking about, this is a way different problem right here which can be compared to the times of Maoist China or Stalinist Russia (I am a socialist myself but I'm just being real) where kids would denounce their parents (in China teachers as well) for having different political views by saying something that sounded ''counter-revolutionary'', it would result in their parents perhaps being arrested and even murdered by police. Of course I'm not implying that this is literally happening in today's America, but we can see the same signs of this family relationship that truly worries me and should worry everyone else.
When it comes to doublethink and thoughtcrime I could tell you a lot about it but I don't think this is a platform to use to talk about that.

Well yeah, if kids are “denouncing” their parents because they are racist / homophobic or whatever, how does that not fall into one of the categories you described? (I.e. Not being able to stand ur parents / feeling harassed / doing something that negatively affects the kid?)
In any case I think it’s silly to act like anywhere in the West is some sort of autocratic dictatorship. Literally every example you’re giving, in 1984 and in Maoist China/ Soviet Russia, is about government enforcement for the purpose of maintaining power.
No western government is enforcing what you’re talking about, and I can’t see any reason why they would - what would banning the word “chairman” do to help maintain government control?

It's not the government but the opposition that tries to implement these ideas. Anyone with a brain can see that easily. And also just because someone has different views it does not mean that they are automatically racist / homophobic etc, it doesn't have to mean that, and still even if they lowkey are you can try with conversation instead of crying on tiktok how ''parents are so stupid and don't understand anything''
Don't even get me started on the usage of word ''racist'' because nowadays it's easier than ever to be called a racist even if you're not, like it's happening every day on Twitter or Instagram where people just throw that word around without any problem

This just isn’t true though, the opposition to the current US government (assuming you’re American) is Joe Biden. If you think that a Biden administration is going to look to ban words like policeman and punish people with fines or jail for using them then I think you’re seriously misguided.
Literally every generation for the last 50 years (at the very least) has used their forum of choice to cry that parents are stupid and don’t understand anything, this isn’t a sign of a slide into autocracy

You'll see what I meant by the time lol, perhaps it's not Biden but it goes way deeper than that

Language evolves bro, at one time not too long ago it wasn’t considered offensive to use the word “n*gro” to describe black people.
At some point the English language literally developed to drop the gender specific cases you see in most European languages - guess what, the people who are campaigning to drop these from euro languages rn are attracting the exact same criticism you’re giving for the man/person debate
If you’re gonna be concerned about negative actions taken by Western governments at the moment i really think you should look to focus on increasing wealth inequality and wealth hoarding, lack of response to climate change, and the prevalence of “alternative facts” and fake news - not the fact that a few left wing activists want language to become gender neutral.

Yeah read that whole article and it pretty much says 1984 is what happens when you continue totalitarian govt. But, totalitarian govts don’t work bc oppressing people for prolonged periods is bad for the growth of a country.
Then went on to say that in 1984 the oppression was overt and in real life oppression is subvert.
None of that article is relevant to what op said.
you should watch west world TV show season three. I think the type of dystopian society it poses is a much more realistic scenario.

The OPs main thesis is that 1984 is close to the reality we're living in
The point is, that's simply not true because the way power in 1984 is maintained is so far from how it actually works.
OP is just fearmongering about the "radical left" and hasn't read any other books

what are your thoughts on Brave New World? was mentioned in the article you posted. I haven't gotten around to finishing 1984, but i do find the world Brave New World proposes as very interesting

I agree with the article that it's more reflective of the nature of things but beyond that it's also just a better book lol

I see where you’re coming from but no one who brings up 1984 thinks that what happened in the book is going to exactly happen in real life. It’s the concepts that people are talking about. No one is worried about some program called “big brother” that’s spying on you, but I can tell ya that the NSA spying on you is real. It’s things like that people draw parallels to.

Well ops parallels are also weak af
and another question i have: I've had discussions with friends about how the tearing down of statues is "erasing history" and is exactly what Orwell warned... my counterpoint is simple: who learns history through f***ing statues? i've never saw a statue and was like wow cool statue i want to learn more about this guy. I was taught history in school, and until they start erasing/revising history they teach at a young level (they do already to some level which is slightly alarming) i don't see how the tearing down of statues is something inherently wrong.

This is true for most people but the OP is literally trying to argue that very specific concepts mentioned in 1984 are now in place in the real world.
I do genuinely think the OP is arguing that 1984 is near enough real lol
