I'm not really seeing an outrage; it's just a lame and ironic process of destroying an original after copying it, then claiming you have the original.

The fact that it can happen, because it has happened before, is what people are reacting to. I don't see an issue at all.

I hope they can keep the same energy with literally every other auctioned piece of work in existence

I try every nft thread, no one really listens but I hope I can teach at least one person about this stuff

Anyway, the basis of that article is entirely false and meant to incite a reaction anyway if you bothered at all to read my posts in this thread

obviously the guy destroying it isn’t set in stone but everyone is saying what is the point of NFTs in the first place? it’s basically taking a picture of something and claiming that picture is what’s valuable which is f***ing stupid

    What energy?

A lot of people think NFTs are stupid whether it's Basquiat or some other artwork.

The responses have mostly been the same so far.

That isn’t what an nft is, that’s just what stupid people on the internet do with nfts

cmon bro click the tweet in op and you’ll see the energy generated by the hypothetical of someone destroying an artwork, that’s why this entire thread was created, hell even just read the title of this thread

so what is an actual good use for an NFT?

  • Apr 28, 2021

    Buy metadata brehs.

  • Apr 28, 2021

The funny thing about this is Basquiat would probably see both the culture around NFTs themselves as well as the outcry over preserving one of his pieces as stupid

They have different use cases, one of them that’s more useful would be to digitize certificates, licenses, diplomas and any documents that would need to be proven as authentic efficiently

Obviously they seem to be getting a lot of hate due to its popularity in art right now, which to many may seem pointless

In other words it provides a safe digital proof of ownership

so what is an actual good use for an NFT?

    coindesk.com/maker-price-makerdao-real-world-assets-defi

financing a mortgage without the need for an intermediary like a bank

That’s just one small part of the goal of crypto, to decentralise and eliminate the need for corrupt institutions running literally the entire world, the house was registered as an nft I believe all part of the code in which these autonomous protocols run off of

  • Mango

    NFTs are blockchain

A lot of blockchain is a huge waste of electricity but this guy in the quote is a complete dumbass for forgetting that wind power exists and is like 5x larger than solar power

so what is an actual good use for an NFT?

you could use NFTs for bonds and tons of other financial instruments

you could put concert tickets on NFTs

you could put objects in Video games on NFTs

you could use it to validate real world things like deeds, licenses, passports

NFTs have support for automated royalties also on digital sales of something

Most people are seeing NFT’s as this one dimensional thing that’s only used in digital art but its potential is almost limitless if you actually take the time to research what it does

my problem with this is most of these things we already have the technology to do and bringing an NFT into things just seems like an unnecessary third party.

like an NFT of a concert ticket sounds ridiculous to me because it’s already easy to buy tickets online and if it’s supposed to be some kind of unique ticket there’s really no point in a non-physical collector’s item

tldr: it’s seems to only good for financial deals and everything else is just kinda bullshitting

"The NFT makes no sense if the original exists!"

"Let's destroy the original. Now we have a digital copy, but actually the digital copy becomes the original because there is a certificate saying you are the sole owner, and everybody else using this digital copy merely has a copy of the copy of the destroyed original!"

    NFT retärdation in a nutshell

I dont understand the appeal?? Like I genuinely dont???? Pls explain someone

NFT’s can prevent scalpers in regards to tickets alongside other benefits

if you sell a ticket on Stubhub right now and the venue isn't partnered with them the person can easily charge it back and say the tickets didn't work

having a universal standard for buying and selling tickets with a transparent auditable blockchain would make s*** a lot easier for verifing if tickets are legit also if your buying them

like I could easily see who issued it and when, if you buy a Coachella wristband or something rn you have no idea if it's fake making things like Craigslist and FB Marketplace super sketchy for buying tickets

Blockchain has far better security for databases while costing a lot less to secure and manage

once Next gen blockchains fully rollout it will cost far less power and money to put things on the blockchain than digitally secure them yourself

there are massive security costs to Databases people don't even think about with valuable things like tickets

right now decentralized Blockchains efficiency isn't there yet so it's extremely costly to run so the use cases aren't that obvious but it's about to scale to 100000x the capacity and throughput in the next few years and it will keep scaling

    How?

All I see are a couple of people saying it's stupid and there's nothing wrong with that because it has happened already. That's what people are commenting on ITT, same as me.

Not sure what you're trying to argue with this angle.

Hypotheticals create a lot of controversy for the fact that it can happen (science is probably the biggest one), especially if it already has, which is the case for what's happening right now. This isn't some new blog gimmick and it certainly isn't wrong for voicing concern either.

It seems backwards and that's all people are commenting on lol.
