Bruh I even know about that mans I could give 2 f***s about Kesha🀣

Honestly I hope more women become bigger fans of Hip-Hop. Maybe that will help some of these girls reach a level of success without having to get ass shots.

yeah a lot of guys I know don't even get why I f*** with female rap heavy but there's some great artists. Girls I know love hip hop tho, but they generally tend to f*** with more guys still. But is it because females don't get the mainstream looks to get picked up by causal female fans?

It's so f***ed up but it actually worked out for Doja. Before everything happened a producer of his prestige probably wouldn't have worked with her on so much music. I'm surprised there hasn't been major backlash to it. I would have thought Dr Luke producing the song was way more shocking to most people than anything she's done

I feel like it's getting a bit better tho. We got Doja, Megan, Lizzo and Nicki all taking wins at the same time rn. That couldn't even happen a few years ago. Everybody was like it's either Nicki, Cardi or Remy like they couldn't all coexist.

it might be a classic over in the UK but here in the states she's more popular for being the girl on swagga like us than she is for paper planes.... Let alone the album it came from

you probably biased by being a fan of the artists on that song.

Paper Planes went top 5 in the US, 3x platinum, top 40 most highest charting songs of that year, 177 million views. 347 million Spotify streams.

That's a major hit. It was XL's biggest hit ever till Adele came along. Swagga Like Us re-sampling her as the entire hook of that song makes it even more of a classic. She wrote that hook, even if it's a sample and it's the catchiest part of that song. She carried.

For an underground artist like MIA to be that successful means they have to break down barriers. Her content and sound was completely unique to the rest of other artists successful in that era. Alongside a few later tracks like Bad Girls, that 2005-2007 period of M.I.A.'s career is a classic moment in pop culture.

You just out of touch with it or don't appreciate what it meant

Paper Planes did better than Swagga Like Us by every metric tho. Certifications, sales, billboard and streaming.

Just look at Spotify - over 300m streams vs 30 million streams

Lizzo has definitely opened up the doors for more body acceptance in Hip-Hop.

I wonder if she'll go full r&b/pop next album or if she'll go more hip hop/rap heavy.

She can actually rap if you go back to when she very first came out

Also I think you’re right about casual female listeners. I think this decade will be a lot bigger for female artists tho.

Pink Friday is the closest thing in her discog to being a classic imo.

But I still don't know if it 100% is.
