There’s a fantastic game here but it’s buried under incessant repetition, lazy storytelling (especially in Route B where there’s just hours of text where there should be cutscenes), boring fetch quests, and perplexing game design choices. 4/10

A lot of that was a budget thing I believe. They just didn’t have the money to do everything they wanted. Wish they fixed that content in the remaster but

Ah that makes sense, it’s a bummer because I love this world and the characters were great, especially Kaine and Emil. I feel like maybe for this remaster they also didn’t have much money because it launched in 2021 with no PS5/XSX versions which felt odd.

Yeah it's still a really nice upgrade sound & visually and the combat is better
Never played it but seen people say that whilst the story/music and characters are all great the gameplay is pretty bad.
I'm still gonna cop regardless cause Automata my top 5 games of this gen and one of my fav games of all time at this point. I never played Nier or any of the Drakengard games either and im tryna hear the whole story too
no the gameplay isn’t bad whoever told you that probably thinks sekiro is one of the greatest actions games ever made
Ok the dlc goes hard af. Love the visual style and the fast paced combat, really makes this game shine. Maybe the most fun I’ve had yet, it’s only a few hours long but I wish it was longer. Also god damn the soundtrack is insane.

I think the text section in the forest was dope 🤷

That’s not what I meant, I loved the forest of myth text sections. It fit the whole deathdream sequence and made sense in that part of the game.
I’m talking about after the first ending when you do the second playthrough you have to read Kaine and Emil’s memories
Ending E was incredible, really tied together the whole experience and overall I think I’d give the game a 6/10 now. It’s like easily an 8 or 9 if they didn’t make you do so much repetition to get all the endings.

For the life of me I could not get into this game. I tried several times but all of these things you listed put me off badly. I loved automata

The gameplay in nier is decent but you’re wrong about Sekiro. It is a top 10 action game ever

The director of the game really needs to learn restraint, it’s like he keeps shooting himself in the foot. The final ending is so satisfying but you literally have to go through so much boring repetition to get to it.
There’s even a fast travel mechanic in part 2 that would’ve made everything in part 1 much less boring and drawn out. It’s like one of the most unnecessarily bloated games I’ve ever seen. Automata is a far superior version of everything this game is.

Everything except characters, this cast clears the Automata cast easily

im not wrong but go off king
im not wrong but go off king
What are you highest rated action games? I won’t critique but I really wanna see where you’re coming from

To be fair sekiro’s influence is very clear, so many new games are clearly inspired by sekiro. Even stellar blade, which is a love letter to Nier, has a bunch of sekiro mechanics.

4 years ago my guy.
It's funny though cause since then my thoughts on Nier has changed a lot. Automata is still one of my favourite games of all time but the combat is probably the least interesting thing about that game and the combat in Replicant isn't any better either.
The combat in Nier really is all flash and no substance/depth. Though I will say that its really smooth and can be somewhat fun when the enemies don't die immediately

!!!!!!
It’s definitely pretty to look at, but I hope on the next game they make combat more engaging

For me Nier automata combat had a lot of depth because you could construct different builds using all the “plug-in chips,” I wish more games had that freedom of being able to make and change various builds on the fly
edit: I know Replicant tried something similar with the word editing but it was more limited and less complex

I agree, I loved the amount of chips you can stack to the point that you get slowdown for like 6 seconds. It was unbalanced as f*** but it was really fun
Replican't didn't really have any of the customisation options so its strange when people try and tell me how the combat in Replicant is superior when all you have left is an unengaging combat system.
I remember playing on Hard and putting it back down to Normal because after the story skipped forward all the new enemies become sponges that take forever to kill. My thoughts on this game are pretty much the same as yours, Ending E was amazing and there were some highs sprinkled in the game but the amount of times they make you replay this game is a sin
