thread going from "white artists who perform blackface gaining traction via nepotism and industry co-signs is bad for the culture" to rap purists seeking validation for hating modern trap music. weird conflation & very telling.
this has been a problem since eminem - who continues to be lauded for putting out s*** music - so i'll gladly take one of these new gen artists who are actually Black over their white counterparts anyday. also anyone using the term mumble rap is someone who don't need to be in the conversation.
nigga seen Carti indulge in a little Wayne cosplay & forgot his ideal of lyricism is spelling out vamp 20 times
Why do you say this like Thug is a lyricist? Are you trolling?
Posts like these show why hip-hop fans are easily the dumbest fanbase out of any other genre that consumes music
You don’t need someone to explicitly tell you that they were influenced by someone, if you’re familiar with the most impactful artists in the genre and what they sound like
It’s clear that you’re some sort of Thug diehard so you feel the need to fluff up his resume by solely attributing influence to him instead of just giving credit where’s its due
it’s in his best interest to try to slide Carti under Thug anyways because he already lapped him in terms of music and influence lmao
Purrp got more influence on Carti than that nigga does
You mean the Grammys and s***?
like it’s such a bold faced lie because those Pitchfork hipsters around 2015 loved Thug and Future, that’s why i don’t understand why they say that s***
he was literally considered an “experimental” artist when he came out

What’s with you idiots today, thug influence is Wayne influence and I don’t need someone to explain that to me, he doesn’t possess the tools necessary to approach music in the same way as wayne, he raps adjacently to thug who raps like Gucci & bloody jay
The real issue about all the "We just have to get used to this" s*** is that it seems that it's ALWAYS these corny white kids from privileged backgrounds and that's...that s*** is just not at all hip-hop man
That's why all these pasty cacs coming in treating this like a joke and making these meme songs is a problem. It will literally kill the genre and turn it into more of a joke than it has been these last few years. Especially when they're not even adding anything new to the s***. It's just white frat boy versions of s*** we've been getting, and it's so much worse.
If this is the new era we're about to be in then it's safe to say that once again white people have taken and ruined another Black genre.

An artist doesn’t have to have the same exact capabilities as their influences in order to sound like them or adopt their approaches to music stylistically, I’m actually sure you know this but you just want to troll so it’s all good
Eminem cited Led Zeppelin as an influence in his music, and although he can’t play a guitar, it definitely influences the sort of production he chooses to get on since he explored rock sounds in his music before
Won’t waste my time

remember in mid 2010s when that whole “mumble rap” thing was at its apex, they excused all of the s***ty lyrics, heavily melodic driven + carried by production s*** as “hip-hop evolves” they were out here batting for Famous Dex dawg
even pop has better gatekeeping it’s so funny, Jojo Siwa been trying to nepo her way into the entire s*** and no one is taking that girl serious

that why kpop > hippy hop
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3K0TOvTOnoDamn I thought you said "hippy pop" for a second i was excited for a new genre that sounds up my alley
middle school nostalgia for good ol Dex
He sounds like he’s having fun and isn’t being a tryhard
that song is the most try hard s***

you see lil bro on the previous pages saying an artist needs to be able to do what their influences do in order for it to count?
anytime someone broaches the Wayne Thug subject it always this drawn out defensive thing, I don’t have s*** against Wayne for niggas to be giving me mini essays at 9:30 am lmao

Yeah ngl I was on that wave cause back then I resented all of the old heads around me still being out of touch and s*** and I geninuely liked the production by guys like Uzi & Carti. But deep down I was like this doesn’t hold a candle to anything that came out of the blog era and some of the GOAT rap from the 2000s. That was when I graduated college btw.
Now I find myself really tapping more into the classics and the guys that I grew up with (Kendrick, Tyler, etc) and also Boldy, Gibbs, Mach, and the other Griselda guys more cause that s*** is timeless to me.
I still check for Carti and Uzi but that Soundcloud era when rap was charting is definitely when the decline started. You could even argue that 2014 is also where the care for lyricism died but that’s a whole other topic.
All this to say, I think we just need balance.

just so absurd
Frank Ocean doesn’t have a fraction of Prince’s vocal range and yet it’s very obvious that he was influenced by his songwriting
i guess these kids need it to be an outright bite in order for it to make sense to them nowadays
People said the same thing when Macklemore came around truth be told white rappers have a short shelf life they really come n go
Why do people think they can gatekeep a genre of music? Maybe just don't listen to those artists you don't like lmao.
fr tho can we stop with the daily "is hip hop dead" threads
inevitably you invite all matter of kpop scum to have opinions on this when their thoughts just aren't needed

If there’s one thing people have the power to gatekeep it’s a genre of music lol. Genres as we know them are kinda defined by gatekeeping
