modern trap music is what allowed these niggas to come in here off of nepo + digital blackface because the bar of entry was extremely lowered
what are you not understanding? they’re literally connected
if hip-hop was still traditional you really think a nigga like Yeat would be able to blow up without no hip-hop fundamentals like that?
just gave you an example of the most prominent white artist to set this precedent since 1997. the bar for entry has been low for awhile so - what are you not understanding?
conversely, if hip hop was still traditional, the sheer amount of conservatism and homophobia in the industry would've kept a plethora of artists from being allowed to flourish. artists who have amplified the genre to its highest heights ever. whether or not the quality of the music has evolved to your liking is one thing, the former is something that can't be denied. label figureheads, legacy acts and us as the audience are to blame and it's been that way for the past three decades. acting like this has become an issue solely with the new generation is both reductive and willfully ignorant.

”conversely, if hip hop was still traditional, the sheer amount of conservatism and homophobia in the industry would've kept a plethora of artists from being allowed to flourish.”
the culture of hip-hop is distinct from what was typically required to be considered “good” in those times, basically every single hip-hop artist that commonly crop up on an all time list were very strong lyricists with crossover ability, i don’t think the bar of entry was ever that low like it is now
even B list artists like Ludacris had to have that ability to be taken seriously
who from this newer generation of artists from the SoundCloud era fit the bill and wouldn’t look out of place next to the JAY’s, Kendrick’s and Nas’ on an all time list? who would you put up there? Future?
i see your overarching point but the conclusion not so much if im being honest, it isn’t trap’s “fault” but it provided a medium for lazy and successful music, that’s more on the people who use it like that versus it as a sound itself obviously
this forum full of s*** cause soon as I posted nani2neat (kid that rapped about guatemala revolution over rage beat on tiktok) none of yall was tryna hear that s***
https://soundcloud.com/user-565949701-953620419/sackreligiousKeep tryna f***, now she salty
I'm tellin' her Na like it's chemistry
Born schizophrenic my money gon' talk to me
No bеstiality, been had that dog in me
Opps throwing dirt on my name it's like sod to mе
@nikedufflebag said it's impossible to be lyrical over these type of beats and not sound corny which one is it yall?
@Brave
Let's be real, niggas in general aren't prepared or will be able to comprehend that lyricism and contemporary trendy production can go hand to hand. They act like guys such as Public Enemy, Ice Cube, KRS One, Pastor Troy, 8Ball & MJG, Kendrick Lamar didn't exist. A very damn shame
yep, they over intellectuallize the music to justify their stanning of it, usually white
did the same thing when WLR came out
do people treat music like fast food or are they lame for taking it so seriously
pick one dawg, it can't be both

where did i ever say it’s lame to take music seriously lol
im an experimental/abstract hip-hop hipster guy, i kinda have to lean towards taking music seriously if i want the artists i like to garner any sort of respect
there’s a difference between blatantly exaggerating the qualities of your favorite artist versus realistically assessing it, it’s usually pretty easy to tell the difference

I think you're "blatantly exaggerating" the quality of the s*** you like lol.
like who tf are you bro? you really think only the crap youre into should be taken seriously? at least you're honest that you're an annoying hipster.

and i think you’re blatantly exaggerating the quality of s*** you like
me saying we shouldn’t treat upcoming rappers like they’re little children with training wheels doesn’t translate into “you think only the stuff you like is worth taking seriously?”
you’re doing the same s*** you think im doing but just the opposite way (aka poptimism) but im sure you think this sort of infantilism is somehow you being pro-black or some corny s*** 🥱

"most users"
bro is in a secret group chat with himself where he decided nobody here talks to me
Random but it finally hit me why the West Coast hasn’t been able to ‘assimilate’ to the flow of hiphop over the last however many years: slower grooves define modern hiphop production and flows, and none of the slower old school West Coast production has been modernized the way slower old school Southern production styles have
We’re still only doing the midtempo thing down here, and if not, then we just do the South
that post doesn’t even make sense to me, and also yet again goes back to that point that @browser and @SegaDreamFlash even earlier said, that people buy into aesthetic/branding more than the actual music nowadays lol
they call JPEGMAFIA corny on here because he’s openly an internet nigga rapping about memes, forums and whatever else and i guess that nigga reminds them that they post on here
just so weird to me honestly
Wait what’s goin on
Wait what’s goin on
one of these niggas said they don’t wanna listen to a KTT poster because they want the artist they listen to, “to be cooler than me”

Half these niggas they listen to be losers IRL anyway
What people like @Veggie and @twinkletoez dont understand is all this s*** is funny til you at an artist mixer (was invited by this drummer i played keys for a gig at recently) in BROOKLYN and you hearing all these young niggas music (black, white, and hispanic) and literally all. Of. Them. Sound. Like. Yeat and Carti.
BROOKLYN.
Sounding like rappers that either are or wanna be from Atlanta
I wish I was making this up.
RT @browser
Bro it’s crazy out here
When did caring about things become corny?
The real answer is that when faced with valid criticism that a person understands they will attempt to downplay what’s being discussed because they still like whatever it is they’re talking about.
Niggas can’t admit that they still f*** with the vultures so they try to make it seem like everyone else is the problem
All ik is that Ian sucks
