Are you aware of the existence of jazz music? Pretty much all the big figures in that genre went into it with albums in mind. And if you try to rebut that and go back further, Frank Sinatra's "In The Wee Small Hours" is the first concept album ever...As for music videos, Beatles basically invented music videos. So idk what kinda crack you're smoking

Michael Jackson is probably the greatest pop star ever but In terms of musical impact, the Beatles outweigh MJ. Tho they were both the biggest in their eras.

He was crediting the creation of long songs and recording albums in Pop to the Beatles, I simply stated James Brown was doing that since the late 50s and he was the godfather most disco, R&B and soul artists in America along with Aretha Franklin

This was before the Beatles started their run in, before 1965 when the Beatles made their first serious album according to @ARCADE_GOON

As for music videos, Black artist were never funded by their labels to create short movies or music videos because white dominated stations never played Black music on TV in the 50s and up to the late 70s

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

This was super insightful, I'm not doubting the influence, dominance and appeal of the Beatles either but as far as globally, MJ was bigger

I grew up in a hood in DC, not a single soul can name Beatles record but everyone acknowledges MJ

But I guess that all depends, you're from Euro so your answer may be different
