This study doesn't mean SSRIs don't work tho, plenty of evidence for its efficacy with placebo controlled double blind studies
Effectice medication doesn't necessarily resolve the root cause
Yeah I’m on SSRIs rn and I agree
depression doesn't happen more in countries that suffer more tho
well what is suffering to you?

I know they have studies on this but it seems inconclusive and broad to make this statement when the representation from global south countries in this data is skewed and also the actual discussions around mental health in general outside of Westen society and how different cultures address it (or don’t). Heck even in America were just getting to the point where minorities and other POC are finally starting to address mental health, and that’s not even getting into America as a whole

they're talking about levels of serotonin at the end but it doesn't mean much if your receptors don't do the work
Good point
Yea not surprised
We know very little about the brain/consciousness/emotions
I think it's a complex combination of serotonin dopamine and other neurotransmitters that when out of wack can cause different mental issues
But depression can come from life events too so maybe its not even that
