Yeah the punk aesthetic is kinda fake but the album still nice so

It's kind of fascinating because a lot of non-rap fans or people more diverse taste didn't immediately s*** on the album the way that rap fans did.

A lot of what Carti did on the album by rap standards is REALLY out there, but to me it's not all that crazy.

You gotta listen to James brown album cuts or filler in his albums. He deadass just be adlibing to the funk of the music and that s*** still great. Carti in a essence is doing the same s*** on some of these songs where they say he don’t got lyrics. Carti don’t need to say s*** on the track. That ain’t the type rapper he is

I think its easy to split rappers into the categories like Andre 3000, Black Thought, Nas, Eminem, Jay-Z, etc. who are technically impressive emcees and then rappers like Lil Uzi, Key!, Young Thug, etc. who are less technically proficient but make up for it through their punchlines, songwriting, melodies, etc.

Like Hov can be on a forgettable beat, but you don't give a s*** because it's Jay-Z and You're listening to his lyrics while Uzi and Key can be on minimalistic beats, but turn them into incredible songs through their talent for flow, hooks, and melodies.

Carti occupies a different lane. He's not technically proficient but I wouldn't say his songwriting is great either. He reminds me close to Travis Scott where the production takes front stage while the rapping is minimal to create a mood/vibe.

Carti isn't about lyrics in the way that people are accustomed to, and that inherently ISNT a bad thing.

At this point niggas need genres on paper because these niggas be having pointless arguments. The type of rapper carti is is a melodic rapper. His attributes and what to expect of him is good melodies and hyped tracks. That are good. And these dudes are hypocrites because hip hop didn’t start on lyrical s***. You can compare wat carti do on these beats to MCs wit djs. Just getting hype on da beat not saying much just getting it more turnt.

Exactly. And it doesn't even have to be an either or. Andre, Em, and Jay have crafted fantastic songs with their own songwriting capabilities while Uzi and Key have formed interesting multisyllabic rhyme schemes with their ability to bend vowels using assonance.

It's that an artist's notable strengths is what makes them stand out.
