People can call it nostalgic all they want but there was a genuine excitement when artists used to rise together, feature on each others songs and do clique tracks. That was feeding into creating new stars and quickly learning about new artists
The veterans now who become popular with that happening are all fractured now (or outright beefing) and new acts often are finding their ground relatively alone. Its less collaborative and less of a family
Even with some of the variety now it serves more like different pockets of the genre that don't interact. Acts aren't building off each other in the same way
this is an issue i cant find a source nor a solution for inb4 beef topics
Word shoutout to them. went and listened to that raindance with dave and tems its fire
Cench still my favorite of anybody mentioned but im not well versed in UK hiphop/adjacent sub genres like that
there’s so much variety and quality in the uk scene as far as new talent goes they’ve been lapping us most of the 2020’s

Bro... its okay to throw in the towel sometimes 😂
i think we need more tastemakers a la A$AP Yams, Kanye, VIrgil, Ian Connor (astaghfirullah) , Westside Gunn, etc.

agree w dis
If Carti wasn’t a d***head his team could’ve been this but nah lemme put Travis on my album 3x
Well he said hip hop not specifically mainstream
Secondly one night sounds very different from sprinter, denial is a river or like, fein
I perceived the post to be about hip-hop “in general’. I’m not ignorant to the fact that there’s more sub-genres of hip-hop than ever before. All I’m saying is that in the ones trying to chase a hit, a Top 40 placement, are for the most part sticking to the same sound from a decade ago.
Yeah but that doesn't really explain that its really only hip hop falling off the charts right now. There's still a clear issue
Whether you look at charts, new stars across all genres, festival headliners, etc... there's a visible decline for this genre in particular you can't just duck by putting it on everyone
We're not seeing this happen right now in R&B or pop for instance. Young stars in other genres are actively on the charts right now and some who've stuck around for a bit are seeing career years. Hip hop has been on the opposite trend for a couple years now
It's not just hip-hop though
Go look at the top 40 of the billboard hot 100 right now.
Taylor is dominating who's old.
Bieber has a record in there that's doing well he's old.
Wallen has a record.
But by and large, other than the old guard there's no one in the top 40 that can sell 100K first week outside of acts who debuted before 2020.

I get what ur saying but tbh the sound of Glorilla beats don’t sound very 2016 it calls back to early 10s so there’s pieces of that but it clearly sounds of this era
Rage is p popular, we got sexy drill hits, NY drill was v successful, doechii blowing up off boom bap and pop s*** etc
Rapcaviar s*** is a plague tho yea
I guess it’s a smaller gap than 2006 to 2015 tho
lowkey, culturally especially for the young ppl hes carrying this s*** on his back i swear to god 😂 thats just how it feels to me
He never get credit on here
The only way I can see this being positive is if all the YB garbage dies and a new blog era movement pops up and takes over but I doubt that’s going to happen.
We are living thru the new blog era movment right now bru
I would disagree.
There's a cascading impact to Hip-Hop not being commercially viable. A lot of jobs are lost when Hip-Hop isn't viable.
what jobs

also im still not seeing what yall see in fakemink besides for like 3 songs
Wow these 2 comments are such good faith satisfying responses to the 8 artists I listed! My f***ing bad for even responding smh
why y’all keep saying MIKE like he’s been active for 7/8 years now
Cuz he’s young

For me personally, the ideal crowd size about 2k. That’s how big it was when I saw Carti on the Die Lit tour. His shows fell off a cliff when he moved to arenas and a show with like 100 people just doesn’t do it
why y’all keep saying MIKE like he’s been active for 7/8 years now
yea dawg and kendrick been putting out s*** since 2003 apparently I couldn’t list him if this convo was 2014 either?
Mike been putting out music since he was like 14 bro but he got way bigger in 2023 and is young smh
