i have made more of effort this year for sure to check out new artists from up comers cause i don’t wanna be that guy which thinks music back in my day was better

i tried to tell my friends about esdee/mink/feng awhile ago and they honestly did not care for it at all which is shame because their music i think is fairly unique

Ur real af yea ig it depends on ur group good point

i think the current hit environment is based around safe music that could be put into the same playlist as the old timeless songs, which would be why rnb indie and country are thriving and why pop music still sounds like the 70s-80s. the hip hop the youth is passionate about is still innovating and being weird, so its not compatible right now. im sure itll come around.

I came to KTT after seeing a tweet on the Billboard news to see if you guys are still in denial about the artistic decay and general popular decline of hiphop and yea nothing has changed lol all of these artists literally all sound the same and have such thick, unpleasant, niche sounds that there is absolutely NO WAY this genre will recover and thrive above the underground ever again. Idk if i’ll check for any responses to this since I visit this place once or twice a year at this point, but for those who will reply - or read this and roll their eyes – congrats. You won. I lost. Your music won. Your music survived. You condemned the genre to obscurity, but hey, at least you’ll have Spotify artists like untilJapan to check out at your local 2,000 seat theater every once in awhile!

a local 2000 seat theater selling out for a show is actually pretty deep just sounds like you mad rap not mainstream anymore when niggas never trusted a European owned Billboard who cooks the books for my music

It’s just 2008-2010 pop recession era again…let them have they fun…nobody worried about this, it too shall pass

“Obscurity” as the #1 genre in the world that the 3rd biggest would have to multiply 8x to get as big as btw
We were talking about rising artists with a vision apparently I need billboard toppers for that? Fakemink literally performed with Drake genius holy f***

cause clout is a hell of a d*** lmfao

the instant access to fans is a hell if a d***

the quick dopamine means more than practice

these niggas rather be on twitter getting glazed for their singles and YouTube videos than locking in for a full project cycle and promoting it well with a tour accompanying

its the era of likes, comments, and trending Twitter/TikTok posts with your name in it all over, especially the underground

Where are you getting this information from? I read your post and searched for data – surveys, polls, peer reviewed articles – to confirm that hiphop is the “#1 genre in the world that the 3rd biggest would have to multiply 8x to get as big as btw” and couldn’t find anything, aside from an article from “unchainedmusic.io” (???) which cites no sources and “driveresearch.com”, which DOES cite sources but not many (if not NONE) of which back up this claim. Am I missing something?

And in the EXTREMELY UNLIKELY event that you are correct and are able to cite a credible source for this claim, how many of these streams and sales are coming from legacy artists, like Kendrick, Kanye, and Drake? BEcause I highly doubt that the bulk of those streams and sales are coming from checks notes Fakemink lol

Why even engage with someone saying mckinley dixon and lucy bedroque "literally sound the same"

Because - due to common sense - other mediums of art entertainment acknowledge that there’s a qualitative/connection based aspect from art to listener regarding the cultural state of their fields, whereas whenever you attempt to do so with music, a loud swath of music nerds attack you with the notion that music is not at all culturally affected by anything other than peripheral changes in the market
