I think it’s because they make rap music that diverges from hip hop in that they make these large ensemble projects where their voice and actual rapping is minimized in importance. Like a song like hold my liquor, with Bon Iver doing a lot of singing, Chief Keef doing an intro and hook, Mike Dean doing a guitar solo, and then Kanye’s rapping kinda binding the song together but being most likely written with a lot of other people and the lyrics more or less reflecting the themes of the song rather than any actual event experienced by Kanye the rapper. I definitely think a lot of Kanye albums are almost more like “Curated by Kanye” albums rather than solo records, and Travis likes that format of album too.
