As I understand it, especially in the beginning there was no bag with Yeezy. The fashion industry was trying to tear it down. He’s worked with several designers that have credited him just as much as he’s credited them. I think Steven smith talks a lot about what ye has done in the creative process if you want to dive deeper
edit: And im pretty sure i remember steven smith saying that him and ye would spend all nighters sending back and forth their own sketches for the yeezy 700
why do you think they are lying? if they were lying they would’ve been called out on it by now
I never searched for Ye but I recall virgil being called out by fashion industry peers for all sorts of things
“Abloh is not a design genius but he is a smart communicator,” wrote Business of Fashion’s Angelo Flaccavento. “He is not the most cultured of designers but he can talk the system into believing so. Most of all, he can dish out easy products with a very cool aura. What’s not to love?”
“Expect the same boring, easily-digestible menswear archetypes Abloh has been churning out at Off-White, only with Louis Vuitton logo on them; and, obviously, a slew of collaborations,” wrote StyleZeitgeist EIC Eugene Rabkin. “Abloh’s hiring is a disservice to fashion at large, and will only contribute to the dismal state of contemporary fashion. Here is the thing: fashion is a creative industry, and a certain duty to creativity has always been implicit into the behavior of its players. Clearly, Louis Vuitton executives think this is no longer the case, and that the only duty they have is to their bottom line.”
IKEA’s Henrik Most wanted to elevate the chair into an “art object,” something more than just a typical chair. But, as Diet Prada points out, that typical chair is actually, “an icon of mid-century design by Paul McCobb for his Planner Group series… among the best selling contemporary furniture lines of the 1950s.” The account continued: “We all get your approach by now, but it would actually be much more interesting to know the sources of your ‘inspiration’...especially if they’re this iconic.”
so for virgil I always am a little skeptical, I don't know if anyone ever praised his designs but rather his quality to sell his pieces
when I ask for footage etc it's also cuz that's how I've known most designers (famous or not) to get down lol they will show u behind the scenes of them making garments or designs to give people an insight on their creative process
I mentioned karl lagerfeld earlier and here he is for example

!https://youtu.be/x9vIAvfYIXsI think the closest thing I remember for what you’re asking is there’s a video of steven smith and ye talking about the process for making the yeezy 700s. and he said the first day he got hired they spent multiple days all nighters sending back and forth each other sketches and that steven had never been in a process like that
edit: i dont think ive seen a video in the moment of actually ye designing something. i dont think it’s unlikely though because ye went to college for fine arts before music

We’ll see on YNS tomorrow
Artist vs Rapper are two different things. Moneybagg Yo is a rapper and Kendrick Lamar is an artist.
Except Kendrick wouldn’t say that. Even with TPAB, he wasn’t like “I’m above being called a rapper”
He was like “this is what I want to rap over and this is how I want to do it”
it’s been a major anti-creativity wave on the kanye fan forum, not sure what’s going on
Here’s a question for everyone: if “I’m not a rapper I’m an artist” isn’t to distance themselves from the image of a rapper in order to gain white approval and is in fact from a valid place of doing multiple things, why don’t they ever say “I’m a rapper AND I make other art”? Or better yet why don’t they just say “I’m a rapper SO I’m an artist”?
Come on guys, don’t be obtuse because you lowkey feel attacked by this coon mindset being called out (either because you do have it or your favorite artists have it). Call it what it is

Nah. Don't do that.

Agree with this. I think they only approach it that way because they feel attacked (not to justify them)
The only valid separation of artist and rapper is if you’re making all time hiphop rankings based on who specializes at what or what type of careers they have
Like Kanye wouldn’t be as high on a GOAT rapper list as he would on a GOAT hiphop artist list. But that does not mean a rapper is not an artist

I think it’s completely understandable to want to separate yourself from what I deem a doubly stigmatized term like I just remembered when niggas used to do the whole I’m not a rapper I’m an mc thing, nowdays it’s shifted to I’m not a rapper I’m a rockstar etc
I mean it just sounds like your diminishing his music because he's a rapper. This nigga has an entire album doing mostly emo and folk songs lmfao. What more does a black rapper gotta do to be considered versatile. Was he good at it? questionable. But i would 100% consider him an artist
Block me b****!!! If u don’t wanna see me gmtfo your feed!! U niggas weird bro u don’t like it remove me
