Influence can make an album a classic, but it’s not a prerequisite. Nothing else really needs to be said.

Both are classics. Gonna make a quick playlist of both of their best tracks and spin that rq

    Thanks op!

if an album is STILL talked about to this day then decades of fans and artists have listened and taken inspiration from it. what is your defn of a classic?

Some albums are so great, they can’t be duplicated

Therefore, people don’t try to make another MBDTF or another Thriller or blueprint

That doesn’t mean they aren’t influential

Lets not pretend you trying to sneak Late Registration in the same category as NWTS

  • May 8, 2020
    look at dis

40 flipped the same song 3 times for the intro for one

For two we call MBDTF a classic too and that influenced no one because no one can do it again

it sounds like influence is ur only standard which is isn't fair but NWTS Has influenced alot but whatever let's go by ur logic

Late registration didnt really influence rap lol. Kanyes influence mainly comes from college dropout and 808s.

I prefer late registration to collage dropout

i prefer orchestral sound built on the soul samples, which ended up being one most maximalist and bombastic experimental albums Kanye has made (thanks to Jon Brion). Yea its not really influential but i always go back to it more then most Kanye albums

Now NWTS i am not sure about, it has some great songs but do people call it classic. I always thought if TC can't get the classic label why should NWTS get it

Nah, you don't have to still be on the charts to be a classic. But if you are still on the charts, then you're a classic.

Plus I think there would be a lot morre albums on that list but songs get grouped into a "greatest hits album". I think there were like at least 10 of them on there.

That is all true. At the end of the day, we can't just say every album we like is a classic. 10/10 albums shouldn't be considered a classic either

A mix of chart success, critical acclaim and influence decide a classic album and two of those can be measured. Still a good number of the albums you listed should be considered classics.

but some albums might be more regional like lots of britpop never got recognition in America compared to where in the UK where you mostly likely find Oasis or blur albums in the top 200 albums this week on sales

Hating on 2 amazing albums for arbitrary intangible reasons is stupid

    Impact and influence lmao

    Both albums are great

Agreed. And lots of classic albums originally get really negative reviews. And I'm sure there's a bunch of albums that barely anyone's even heard of today that got amazing reviews when released.

You really just can't tell until down the road. Only real music's gonna last

  • May 8, 2020

Late Registration might be the best Kanye album. Rapping his ass off while actually saying something, absolutely massive hits, live instruments, not one bad song. One of the greatest albums of all time.
