Not gonna go into specifics, but I’ve decided there’s nothing left for me in Texas aside from my brother and parents. I’ve lost all semblance of joy. I can’t connect to the people here and I’ve lived in the same town since I was 4. I’ve always romanticized moving to new york. I want to start over at 24. Is this dumb? Does anyone currently living in new york have input? What do you do? How much do you need to make to live comfortably? How is social life etc

I just moved to DC but I moved to NYC around 2016-2021, one of the best decisions I ever made. It’s expensive and you will be working a lot so for like a year I didn’t have much of a social life, but eventually found a cool circle of friends.
I worked mad jobs, warehouses, coffee shops, and street wear store.

There’s endless opportunities it really comes down to how you present and carry yourself.

You’re young and single/no children. Don’t be scared of renting out a room for awhile until you have enough to afford a studio or single.

Don't do it for p**** do it to make fun of white people in Central Park wearing t-shirts that say KETAMINE on them

And 24 is super young bro.you have a few lifetimes to go before you hit 30..

Take that jump or you’ll regret it

Nigga said 24 is old wtf

  • You should be fine if you move here with your salary. However the closer you live to Manhattan the more expensive the rent will be, if you live in Queens or Brooklyn around 30-40 min away by train from manhattan then you will save a lot of money.

if you wanna live alone comfortably in NY you gotta make like 70-80k i think. crime has gotten worse, nightlife is great if you like art, clubs, bars, restaurants, or music there’s like random ass cool parties you could go to and tons of concerts

    70-80k alone?

I thought anything decent alone started at like 4k/month for like a studio.

I make upper 90k’s, but my job adjusts it based on the location so I’d be making 110-120k. What areas should I look into

You’re good, just get a 1br in a Brooklyn/queens neighborhood that isn’t far from manhattan or too dangerous/dead

IIRC NYC law is that your income must be 3x over your rent (pretax)

    Use streeteasy for NYC apartments

reddit.com/r/AskNYC also has pretty good info
