what's wrong with seattle?
and why austin?
detroit is in a good place right now, only getting better. Housing I would assume to be far cheaper than any of the 4 you mentioned. and theres less weird political stuff really going on, unless you drive out of the greater cities in the state
great live music scene across many genres, many great venues in general too. if you want to enjoy nature too, this would be a good place to start

a 700+ ft studio here is 900 or less usually

Ive had a 2bedroom for 1250 for about a year now
willingly moving to a cold state is insanity

idk what youre into but we have amazing nature based stuff from beaches to kayaks to boating to any snow sports and stuff. So many lakes. You can take a vacation in different areas and feel like youre in a completely different world each time. The sunset over any one of the 5 greats is breathtaking
politically and socially speaking michigan is on a huge rise, some really good changes happen here a lot these days. many good schools and a really good set up for certain social services. you can just tell detroit is getting out of a rut from all those comparison photos of 5-10 years ago. some cities are quite bikable too, afaik most are at least more bikable than other cities. due to all of the bigger cities in michigan kind of going through a rennasaince right now, there are huge amounts of great jon opportunities (buddy moved here from california to be a high level tech worker for new hospital systems being built and stuff. all wfh, well over 6 figs)
and the more majorish cities will be cheaper, arguably less dangerous, and lacking in a lot of the more f***ed up stuff you hear from like nyc or whatever. extremely better traffic. Depending on where you are, chicago isnt far away and you can just up and go whenever
some other cool culture stuff here too but it depends on if you care about it or not. big art and music festivals all over, home of electric forest, well known distillery/beer/weed/disc golf/pinball/hardcore/etc scenes, easily accessible sports arenas
i dunno it just depends on what you want out of life. dont think I could ever move away. but I like to wear hoodies, carhartt, and flannels n s*** anyways
rent and housing costs have dropped a lot in the past 1.5 years, and look to continue decreasing as well
oh and now theres a lot of programs to get free degrees, I just dont know the most behind that

I wasnt trying to cook anyone just explaining why michigan can be worth it lol
What I say is idk why anyone would live up north let alone UP year round. My friend loves it but I do not understand that, except he does outdoor s*** like everyday I guess, and loves ice fishing
