GTA strength always been that it provides the building blocks to crazy experiences and lets the player loose in a playground to do whatever tf they want. The actual design of their gameplay mechanics (shooting, movement, driving etc) always been subpar compared to other games that have less to focus on so they can actually hone in on those

GTA consistently one of the best experiences in gaming as a complete package and how it all comes together. But if you look at the individual parts of GTA gameplay, I can't really point to anything it does the best (except open world/immersion)
