    DUMMIE

EVEN if I agreed with that Wayne s*** top 3 isnt just about albums, Wayne influence unmatched

Yeah but you are comparing totally different worlds here. There was no internet when illmatic dropped. And imo with that perspective, illmatic & nas is more influencial

    Nas is the greatest ever.

Notable Nas albums: Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic, The Lost Tapes, God's Son, Untitled, Distant Relatives, Life Is Good, King's Disease.

Limiting Nas to Illmatic is wrong. His next albums consistently get more mature, at times more personal and intimate, more daring and diverse musically and conceptually, more universal and so on.

His peers Biggie and Pac died too soon. While they were equals to Nas in their lives they didn't get to evolve and expand their craft the same way Nas did.

Jay-Z is his main contender, but on three of his most notable albums: BP/TBA/AG he was mainly a braggadocious rapper with some deeper moments scattered throughout. He tried to clown on Nas for kicking knowledge only to end up doing the same almost 2 decades later. Pop rap fans might find his output more fun.

Ye had a great run musically but his concepts and lyrics aren't as good. He isn't the vivid storyteller that Nas is. His rapping doesn't make heads spin. He doesn't really have that raw hip hop feeling that most Nas fans prefer.

And then you have Wayne who is nowhere near Nas' level lyrically and his discog isn't as consistent plus never reached the same heights.

Nas' loosies alone are superior to most discogs btw. The hate he gets on KTT is really weird and mainly comes from ppl who've never listened to him apart from Illmatic. Some of them never really heard Illmatic either.

And I like 50 cent sure but you're gonna sit there and pretend his mixtapes were as good and impactful as Wayne's?

I prefer Wayne to 50 but hell yeah.

The G Unit Radio series is one of the best consistent runs in the mixtape scene ever on top of mixtapes like 50 Cent is The Future, God's Plan, and even 50's recent one, Kanan Tape.

50 and G Unit def has a case for having a top 5 or even top 3 mixtape run OAT.

G Unit literally has 81 mixtapes bruh. They actually pioneered the trend of flooding the streets with mixtapes to the point where Jimmy Iovine from Interscope was pissed at 50 giving away so much free music.

That said, I still prefer Wayne's mixtapes over 50's but 50's def close behind him in that category.

Em and Ye are not top 5, Hov is arguable but Nas is definitely a better artist than him

Em is a consensus top 5.. whether ktt agrees or nah

    never did

  • Illmatic is consensus greatest hip-hop album ever so it's hard to leave Nas off the top 5. but career wise... tougher argument

What is your basis for Nas not being potentially top 5? I know its not rapping ability cause that would be ridiculous. Consistency you may have a case cause his catalog has some duds but if u look at some of who OP listed i dont think they have less duds than he does

  • dustheads really gassing him up above Ye and Drake impact? please

Yeah but the impact is very similar. You just listened to Wayne's more and that's cool. So did I.

But G Unit really kinda started the trend. Even Game caught a buzz early on because G Unit had him putting out mixtapes in 04 and LA rappers weren't even known for doing that before. And Lloyd Bank's mixtapes shook up the whole Internet that same year.

People just don't bring it up as much because Wayne as a solo rapper is still relevant and still putting out mixtapes while 50's been irrelevant since 09 and is a TV guy now so it's a case of recency bias imho.

idk bruh i just don’t like his s*** outside of a few tracks on Illmatic lol. not gunna pretend like i’ve heard it all tho.

with that being said, imo only people in OP i can see having better discogs than Nas are prolly Jay, Big, Ye, Drake and Tupac. you’re right about the others being a stretch

actually Wayne’s might still be better despite all the garbage he’s dropped since Carter 3. maybe not tho idk

Lmao yea see even though you prefer Wayne to 50 I respect this post cuz you ain't deny 50's mixtape run.

I hate how he's not in that mixtape discussion when he was doing that s*** before Wayne and just as good imo

  • OP is right.

  • Top 5 in rap is really tough to break into

    He has no case over

    Drake
    Jay -Z
    2Pac
    Kanye
    Lil Wayne

I f***ed with Wayne massively when C1 and 2 dropped, C3 I didn’t enjoy as much but I’ve grown to like over the years. Since then I don’t really f*** with any of his albums. But yeah I agree. People will say Kendrick is influenced by Wayne, and maybe in certain ways he is but his style is by no means directly influenced. I f*** with drake also but I feel their influence gets talked about more because they don’t really have that out and out classic that say a jay or a Nas has. I do think drakes music is far more enjoyable than Wayne’s though especially post C3
