An objective top 5 in 2023 is looking like:
an objective top 5 does not have 3 ny mcs on it
He has more of a case now than he did a decade ago. Can’t say the same for, well, pretty much all of his contemporaries.
Saturation shouldn’t disqualify him from being in the list, if Nas died after it was written he would be top 2

Yeah it does because New York has the best rappers and literally invented hip hop
Wayne hasn’t released a good project since No Ceilings and you wanna act like he’s better than Nas

Wayne almost immediately fell off after C3 lmao and Illmatic is smoking the entire Carter series combined, even if you take 4 out of the equation

I think I disagree with the Kendrick placement
Scarface, KRS One, Rakim, Ice Cube, Ghostface, LL, have strong arguments objectively, what puts Kendrick above them for you on an objective list?Genuinely wondering
On another point I think it’s a bit of a cop out to disqualify drake for the writing thing at this point tbh, Pac didn’t write Trapped and Jay Elec wrote for nas so they have to be off too then. If we really really gonna take it all the way objective, then s***, drake might deserve that 5 spot more than Kendrick at this point in time.

Drake's sheer batting average is disqualifying him lmao, if not the ghostwriting (we also have no proof that Jay Elec wrote for Nas, just hearsay)
The catalogs of Nas, Jay, Pac, and Kendrick are smoking Drakes lmao
Rakim I'll give you though, and maybe Scarface, in which case you can take Biggie out. Kendrick is more consistent than KRS, Cube, and LL. Ghost is a good contender but Kendrick has higher highs imo.
Drake has never made an album that can measure up to Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, Me Against the World, or To Pimp a Butterfly like come on now
edit: Nor has Wayne, and Em only has one album in this category and it's the clear worst of the five

Is it fair to say Kendrick is more consistent than KRS and Cube when he hasn’t had the chance to make as much music yet? He has 5 albums and one of the most recent was considered a disappointment, so he had a 4 album run. KRS had a 7-8 album run before he disappointed. I think Kendrick’s consistency is inflated in that way

Mr. Morale wasn't a disappointment lmfao
Of all the artists OP listed, these are the top 10 albums made in between all of them (minus Ye because he's a producer):
1) Illmatic
2) Ready to Die
3) Me Against the World
4) Reasonable Doubt
5) The Marshall Mathers LP
6) The Black Album
7) The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory
8) Life After Death
9) All Eyez On Me
10) 4:44
Wayne and Drake nowhere to be found and Em got one entry smack dab in the middle. Pac and Jay have 3 albums apiece in there lmao

To the majority it was, I got some enjoyment out of it but in some ways it felt like a step down from the others
Morale is a borderline miss imo if we’re being objective, the reception was polarizing
As far as drake not having albums that compare to other albums, you’re getting into more subjective territory. Drake’s batting average might not be as high as Kendrick’s, but part of that is having way more at bats, actually showing up consistently. when we’re being objective I gotta weigh that, a high batting average with low at bats isn’t that impressive if we’re using the baseball metaphor.
You could get 5 hits in 5 at bats throughout 10 years and be batting a thousand, but does that make you better than someone who was actively hitting the whole time and is batting .300?
