Certainly a better case I guess

when we talk about top 5, what standards are we talkin about

in terms of rapping ability, i still think wayne is one of the greats

To the majority it was, I got some enjoyment out of it but in some ways it felt like a step down from the others

Morale is a borderline miss imo if we’re being objective, the reception was polarizing

As far as drake not having albums that compare to other albums, you’re getting into more subjective territory. Drake’s batting average might not be as high as Kendrick’s, but part of that is having way more at bats, actually showing up consistently. when we’re being objective I gotta weigh that, a high batting average with low at bats isn’t that impressive if we’re using the baseball metaphor.

You could get 5 hits in 5 at bats throughout 10 years and be batting a thousand, but does that make you better than someone who was actively hitting the whole time and is batting .300?

Makes no sense whatsoever to call the most streamed hip hop album in 2022, which also happens to also birth the highest grossing hip hop tour ever, a polarizing effort.

Critically praised and fans loved it too

KTT is just anti-Kendrick because the majority of people on this site reflexively hate on conscious rap

There’s not enough bait threads for y’all you have to find old threads to get mad about?

I love Kendrick but I can understand why some wouldn't connect with him. But some of the agendas in here just read as pure insecurity from #that fanbase or, even weirder, blind hate on anything with a more conscious approach to it.

    B.G. invented bling bling

and the bling era wasn't exactly a high point for the genre/culture even if hipsters/backpackers trash it too much

Damn and Big Steppers make a pretty good case for Kendrick not being top 5 worthy

    He needa redeem himself

But the "top 5" discussion typically revolves around bars though

Overall artistry my top 5 is vastly different

But again, I will admit that Wayne deserves top 5 off of the mixtapes plus the best of his album catalog, I was wrong there and I would genuinely put Wayne ahead of Biggie all things considered

You know better than using the critics as a barometer, but whatever I’ll concede that point and say Kendrick is 5 for 5

But his consistency is still inflated by the fact he doesn’t drop much, and through a 12 year career he probably has released less material than any other goat contender made in that period. When we’re talking about consistency, quality and quantity are both factors. Him dropping 5 great albums in 12 years is more consistent than KRS dropping 8 great albums in 10 years?

even Ice Cube’s 5 year run of writing Straight Outta Compton, Eazy Duz It, Amerikka’s Most Wanted, Kill At Will, Death Certificate, and The Predator can give Kendrick’s catalog a run for its money, kendrick maybe gets the edge for it all being solo albums though. But writing that many top tier legendary hip hop classics in that period of time is crazy compared to Kendrick’s run which is very spaced out.

Yeah but fans loved it too, hence the fan score

There's a good argument for Cube but I just think Kendrick hit higher highs. The GKMC-TPAB combo was just insane, arguably the best creative peak of any rapper

Will it have to be when the earth crumbles for people to realize that any top 5 without Lupe isn’t valid

  • Sep 24, 2023

Him and Eminem are in the same category for me as not having the best discography TBH

Can't be mad at someone putting him in a Top 10 list though it's like second nature
