I honestly haven’t watched that interview back, the same way I dont watch my other interviews but I don’t remember asking too much about him covering his face even tho I maybe wrong.

He was a interesting guy to interview tho. Not the most easiest guy to converse with. He wasn’t hard either but, it wasn’t instant chemistry which is what you are probably talking about. He seemed a bit more lively before the interview tbh. I enjoyed doing the interview a lot tho.

And there’s no real reason I do the conversation style, that’s just naturally what I developed into tbh. I think that style works pretty good for me, especially when the person I’m interviewing has bought in.

But about the billy interview, u just remember prolly not flowing like the rest of my interviews because of awkwardness within that interview + we couldn’t see each other to really gauge emotion and context to certain stuff. But from what I remember I still really enjoyed doing that interview

Thats fair on not watching back past interviews. And no there wasn't a lot on the covering of his face, just remember it being brought up. Been a while since I watched it, so my detailed example of critiques are lacking tbf.

And yeah I get that about the chemistry, definitely something of a disparity in this one, which again aint exactly yours or his fault. Inevitable the odd interview is gonna feel stiff or lacking.

What I'm curious about, is your intention to necessarily learn about someone like billy's music when you interview him? Or moreso just to gauge who he is a person? Do you come in with any sort of rough idea of where you want to lead the conversation or is it more improvisational?

I watched your Mavi interview a long time back and remember enjoying it. But this one, and the Navy Blue interview, I was colder on. Felt almost too conversational and unfocused.

As a viewer 30-60 minutes is chunky to commit to, as opposed to reading a transcript of an interview. And I guess my hope as a listener and fan of these kinda guys is always to learn something new about them, be it regarding their music or process or industry relationships, or broach something that hasn't been brought up elsewhere in regards to their past or their personality.

So, wondering what angle exactly motivates you before entering one of these interviews. Beyond just being a fan or wanting to grow your channel and simply having access to the interview.

I kinda get why u wouldn’t be so hot on the billy interview but I really enjoyed the navy blue one. We talked like 30 mins before I even started the interview so maybe people woulda enjoyed that convo as well. But it just depends on the interview on what I’m trying to accomplish. But generally I’m just trying to understand that person and their art a bit more clearer

Best song billy woods has ever made and one of the greatest album closers. Glad Hiding Places got so much critical acclaim. His magnum opus.

One of my favorite woods songs

When I spoke with him in person I asked him about it and man he near welled up, could feel the visceral anger he has for this person. Wouldn't elaborate on the details behind it other than it was recent events and he believed it to be his most significant work personally.

For sure. Excited to see the direction this goes in after Paraffin. Think this is gonna double down on the aggressiveness. Especially seeing the Moor Mother and Nosaj features.
