need me a new leg routine, this trainer at my gym told me I dont need abductors anymore looking at my legs and I was just doing them for warmup but hes right. I dont wanna do squats bc Im unsure abt doing them alone, maybe ill just be doing bodyweight s***
If you have some reason to do abductors to get yourself prepared to lift.. nothing wrong with that. Just treat squats like anything else difficult to learn that requires physical coordination — give yourself lots of practice and exposure to it/variations to learn and feel confident to keep progressing towards it. Leg press and hack squats can help you build some foundational strength for your legs in general if you need to start with something less demanding.. but eventually you have to mimic the squat pattern closely for the coordination to transfer over.. so goblet squats could be a good starting point down that road.. Mix in some single leg stuff as the other guy said to try and surface any imbalances between the two legs.. but yeah just remember everything is very specific.. so to learn a barbell squat.. you have to do them.. bits and pieces will transfer over from the other things but the skill is very specific to the lift, and that’s most compound lifts

Hack squats are goated man, can’t go wrong with that machine. I don’t squat either but they feel great

He’s actually right.. anything above flat is going to move the load into the upper chest.. the more you angle it the more the load is going to be directed into the front delts, etc.. you’re trying to balance some angle over flat with the ability to use the heaviest possible weight for you (which decreases as the angle becomes too steep).. so it’s probably best 15-30 🤷♂️

Realistically if you angle it above flat, it’s doing the right things. From there just feel out 15-45° to see where you feel strongest.. for me it tends to be 30° .. good balance of being above flat and me being able to focus on my chest, thus using a heavier load.. all that being said, we’re splitting hairs.. don’t want to come off dogmatic, just get into the logic behind the decisions
