I need some insight from someone experienced w/ cutting bc I rarely ever do it bc I like lifting heavy, but Im on a cut now & have been for about 3 months at this point. What's a normal amount of expected strength loss?
My deadlift is literally 80lbs lower than my PR due to an injury (which is now healed) but I literally cannot make any improvements towards getting back to where I was on it and i'm wondering if it's because of the cut or if my legs/lower back are f***ed up still and I'm just used to how it feels. I'm completely stuck at 315 which I used to think was easy but now it takes literally everything I have to get it up twice. It's insanely frustrating, and part of me thinks it might even be a mental block since I got injured in the first place from deadlifting. Pretty similar situation with my squat but I'm at least gaining 5lbs on it here and there so it feels like its getting back on track even if its not as fast as I'd like.
Upper body is a totally different story though, but I also didn't have to stop training it for a year because of injury. Overhead press I've lost about 5-10lbs on which I'm chalking up to the cut, but my bench has gone up somehow which is whats making me question all of this in the first place
I'm just really confused because my upper body doesn't seem to be taking much of a hit from the cut but my legs compounds are stuck at about 80% of what they should be and I really don't know why, is this the cut or am I just gonna stuck weak af from injury until I start bulking again in the fall

Strength and muscle loss is pretty standard with the cut. You’re typically not going to be adding weight to your lifts during a cut because you simply won’t be building new muscle. Improvements on lifts during cuts more likely going to be from form improvements than strength. The body will operate in an anabolic state (muscle growth) or a catabolic state(burning fat/muscle). There are very few people that can build muscle while losing weight. Those people are beginners, people returning from a long layoff, steroid users, and freaks of nature.
The key to losing as little muscle as possible will be your protein intake and consistency lifting. The slower the cut the less strength you’ll lose. And in time you’ll learn how your body reacts to best optimize your approach. For example I’m not too worried about the strength loss because I can pack muscle on quicker than cutting fat, so I’d rather cut faster and put the muscle back on after than cut very slowly.
I’m down 40 lbs and my deadlifts is probably about 25-40 lbs down. My bench is probably down about 30. Going on 6 months

Ok that's very reassuring thanks dude. I didn't even consider the form improvement, I've been more aware of tucking my shoulder blades when I bench so that may be why that ones been going up. I also put on muscle quicker than cutting fat so that logic makes sense to me, but how are you cutting 'faster', just a bigger deficit?
Maintaining a calorie surplus actually kinda hard wtf
s*** dumb easy
just eat s*** thats calorie dense if you got a lil ass stomach
like smack a 4 inch burrito thats like 750 cals boom there you go

Yeah just a bigger deficit or getting more cardio in. Typically I’ll shoot for 2 lbs a week which I can do pretty reasonably without losing much muscle mass.
If the body fat a***ysis machines at 5star are to be believed(I don’t) I only lost 1 Lb of muscle when I dropped my first 20 lbs.

Damn if you gain muscle faster than losing fat you are wasting your talents on this forum brother.
