maybe i'm wrong, but i think it would be unusual for Universal to produce a movie without distributing it.

distribution is a wider net

production is a smaller net

another case is acquisitions. take for examples the LOTR trilogy. it was produced by new line. new line was bought by warner but wasnt merged with WB until 2008. so LOTR would not be eligible for WB, in my opinion, even though it's currently owned by WB.

if you watch LOTR then you're not seeing the WB logo. youre seeing the New Line logo.

Warner bought that property so they put out the blu rays in 2010 so u might see the logo on the blue ray box. but those were not WB films when they were released.

the hobbit live action movies, on the other hand, would be eligible because those were released under WB
