i think environment, cruelity. im there with the veganism side but the health side is what makes me not be vegan
what about these arguments.
meat (especially liver and other organs from fish and animals) are the most nutrient rich and nutrient dense things the world has to offer for humans to eat. vegans have to take supplements that wouldnt be available in nature by itself to sustain a diet where they get the vitamins and nutrients they need. this is something that takes research and im not that well versed in it too but from what i gathered is that vegans obviously feel good after switching to vegan diet because they come from a bad and unhealthy diet and of course thats a step up, but after a few years a lot of vegans look depleted, lacking in energy, muscles... so i wonder whats your view on this if youre well verse in that topic cause i know theres simplicist answers like "oh veggies have everything you need in nutrients and vitamins" which seems to not be true.
also another argument i have against veganism is proteins. without eating an insane amount of lentils or supplements (which arent available in nature by itself once again) vegans dont get enough protein. im curious here if you for example know and count how many proteins you are eating a day and have any argument to say that veganism itself supports having a protein rich diet.
another question that i have is. would veganism make sense if we were humans from 2000 years ago? we wouldnt have supplments etc. and it would be hard to have a healthy diet as vegan with only what is given to us by nature.
i dont wanna provoke here. yeah honestly i am kinda on the side against veganism and pro vegetarism but its just whats in my head. if theres anyone that actually thinks has good counter arguments for my two above that are pro veganism im open to hear them.
Okay there is a lot to unpack here but will happily explain a few misconceptions. Think there are a lot of assumptions being made here.
Let’s start at the first one & work our way through. You believe that veganism lacks the necessary nutrients needed for a healthy life and that supplements are needed while also stating meat to be a valid alternative for health.
Are you aware that the average person doesn’t get their full dosage of nutrients regardless of the diet you choose? Especially if we are talking American diets. It is extremely difficult for the average person to get all their daily needs everyday 365 days a year. The only supplement a vegan has to take that is difficult to find in plants is B12 which doesn’t constitute dietary inferiority when we all should be taking supplements in the first place. On another note, Calcium, iron etc. are literally found in plants. It may sound too simple to be true or effective but it’s just simply true. proper eating is a science which for new vegans can take time to understand coming from a diet that relies so heavily on meat. Usually we are not taught how to prepare healthy meals that lack meat but that doesn’t mean it’s any less healthy or the meat is any healthier.
As far as the claim of meat being so healthy, the World Health Organization classifies meats (especially red meat) listed as an carcinogen meaning it is known to be an agent of cancer (in particular bowel cancer). This is the same classification given to cigarettes & alcohol amongst other things. As for fish, the levels of Mercury that can exist can be lethal to humans if eaten regularly with some fish being extremely high in its levels. Pork is literally the worst meat you can eat objectively which is known to be artery clogging. So I’m not anxious to give meat the stamp of healthiness.
Classism?
yes, the meat industry keeps the global poor even more poor. Livestock requires a unruly amount of grain & water Feeding grain to livestock increases global demand and drives up grain prices, making it harder for the world’s poor to feed themselves. Grain could instead be used to feed people, and water used to irrigate crops.

What about poor people with malnutrition? Would you take away their animal food and feed them grains instead?

I will never claim that I solely have all the answers. I understand what I do & learn what I can.
In this case for those who face malnutrition we need to look at a whole scope of things. Not just dietary choices because if they could get their daily intake then they would. I personally don’t have answers enough to throw out there. I only speak on what veganism can directly effect & I do believe it can effect the redistribution & repurposing food. The previous post speaks on that which is one major source of food can be repurposed & distributed to those in need & the environment
veggly is a dating app i heard about but I guess its a bit s*** lol also i guess happycow has a dating/social aspect to it? you could see if there's some animal rights activist type orgs in your area that do stuff and try and meet someone there
Dawg the only interest I'm getting on veggly is from women half a planet away lmao.

Which brands have you tried? A veggie burger from two different brands can taste wildly different fr. Maybe try a beyond burger and see if you fw it. Also go to Wegmans or another market that has a vegan section and see what you can add to it. I bought a vegan Chipotle adobe sauce and that s*** is amazing on a burger with cooked onion, spinach or lettuce, and tomato
really struggling to deal with the reality of almost everyone on the planet being totally cool with animal abuse
fr i am down bad with the vystopia lads
Three months in. I feel f***ing fantastic.
love to see this hell yeah brother!
Bought a huge pack of pumpkin seeds. My new daily breakfast is oatmeal, homemade peanut butter, a chopped banana and pumpkin seeds. A little bit of salt and cinnamon for added flavor. Filling and a good start to hitting my protein & calorie needs. Gonna double up the amount of time I spend working out in about 2 weeks. Should look great by my birthday, and amazing by summer
I don’t get why people flex about eating meat in some weird defensive mode whenever confronted with this stuff (first reply is typical of what you see all over social media). I always knew eating meat made little sense other than my laziness and unwillingness to make the switch (also, enjoyed the taste).
I genuinely don’t feel deprived. If anything, I’m enjoying the extra effort into making my food tasty af and knowing that I’m getting more of those sweet vitamins and minerals for less calories. Also lost a lot of weight and my heart palpitations are practically gone for the first time in 8 years.
@plants veggly and vegpal were looking up for a bit but it's back to women 400mi away being the ones who like me lmao. But my friend is setting me up with one of her girlfriends sometime soon. That's still a state or 2 over but bro she's bad AF

Ooooh I hope you guys hit it off!!!
i wanted to be a vegan but chicken is too good
Vegan alternatives much more succulent and satisfying imo. I’ve never felt more good after finishing a meal now that it’s all plant based. My appetite is much easier to control now too.

Make sure you tell her about this thread when you hit
Actually, do it after. And tell her to stay hydrated in 2022.

Wtf bro we have the same breakfast. Those pumpkin seeds are essential
The peanut butter is just heavenly with the oats and either oat milk or soy yoghurt.
Just today I put in an application for a program coordinator position with the company Beyond Carnism founded by Dr. Melanie Joy btw. I dont think I'll get it but it would be such a cool job to land.
Also, why don’t more people talk about oat milk?! Holy s***.
The one thing I was worried about before switching was not having dairy milk on my coffee and tea. How wrong I was! Oat milk is MUCH nicer and creamier. I was so shocked when my girl (who switched a week before me) made me a oat milk coffee.
