I mean it was the most compelling art in the film. The sound design was so smart. Feels like he honestly just took people's critique and said "oh it's too loud? How about nothing." Brilliant.
The movie is about the bomb. It doesn't show them using slave labor to mine it out of the congo. It doesn't show who we dropped it on. It just makes you root for these scientists and take seriously their moral quandary. It's such a narrow, blinkered space to tell the story in
You wanted to see who mined the bomb in a biographic based on a book biography of one man ? I would argue I wasn’t rooting for Oppenheimer . He was a human being but rooting for him ?
He like a cult leader who regrets what he created but rooting for is such a stretch lol
why do you crave seeing Japanese bombed, the bombs parts mined? You think just because it doesn't show these things we don't know the nuke is bad?

on god would be the worst parts of the film if s*** like that was in it

I would have walked out of the theater like genuinely
Just because some dumb americans in the film clap for him and call him Oppy doesn't mean the audience views him as a hero
there's no point showing the actual ww2 bombings either imo. so much of the movie is about the tension in creating such a weapon, that's why it's still a human/character story instead of just being a documentary about the trinity test. the sense of fear and power is most profoundly felt in the trinity test though. showing the ww2 bombings afterwards would only take away from that particular feeling this movie was trying to achieve. twitter people treating this like a documentary is terribly annoying lol

I think the biography was dumb and the movie suffered from it because who the f*** cares who babysat these guys in the desert for a few years. They have to call in other names to support him and it feels like fanfiction. I don't care if he's sympathetic or not. He's not interesting, emotionally compelling, etc. He's a void at the center of the film bearing his name.
The subject deserves better than his hagiography.

True but it was also bad
Ngl knowing what we know now about how brutal things were in Russia and how many spies they did it indeed have penetrating the western governments, McCarthy/Hoover low-key didn't go hard enough

Couldn’t be that simple Breh this film sxn

they never ever acknowledge something could not be their taste especially when it has high ratings they rather say "everyone is lying about this film" before they say "this isn't my taste"
Yeah. The visuals were good but it’s really not THAT visual of a movie to the point where IMAX is necessary to fully enjoy it.
As far as the movie in general there’s a lot of great scenes and performances in it, but I thought the pacing was bad.
The clearance hearing & Strauss stuff were not interesting enough to justify that much screen time. The movie even acknowledges it at the end “hey Strauss maybe Oppenheimer & Einstein were actually talking about something more important than you.” Exactly so why did we just spend an hour+ on Strauss?
Edit: after sitting on it for a while and getting my thoughts together ima just admit it; this movie was very disappointing.
It completely lacks a centerpiece. The test bomb did NOT do it. The movie is 2 hours of build-up and 1 hour of fallout with no climax. I understand that it would’ve been tough to depict tastefully, but Nolan needed to show something from Japan to showcase the horrors of what Oppenheimer had done.
As it stands the movie is just hours of guys in rooms telling us that bombs are bad. There’s no captivating debate here, there’s no tension. I don’t care about Oppenheimer’s security clearance. I don’t care about Strauss’s cabinet confirmation.
hard agree
Movie was good don't get me wrong..but did it blow my socks off like Interstellar, Dunkirk, Inception, TDK, Tenet..idk
I liked it for unecpected reasons..
-the way they would show the same scene in subjective/objective matter was really cool
-Einstien's last scene with Opp was amazing, including how its cut and his narration and how it cuts back to him sheeeesh
i'd say the editing of this movie is more impressive than anything else
and my god coming from the man that made the AWE INSPIRING visuals in Interstellar, the bomb was incredibly lackluster esp with all the hype behind it.
s*** felt like a tiny explosion to me, ngl
I thought i was gonna see the iconic mushroom cloud, or some sort of scale, it just felt like a big explosion far off in the distance..normal real looking fireball like i've seen in every action movie of the late 90's and early 2000's..
Lol you are on your own I’m not arguing this one with you
I'd go so far as to most historical films shouldn't exist tbh. Read a book like a grown up. Nolan was more fun 10 years ago

historical films shouldn't exist is fair. I say watch a documentary, read a book, watch a youtube video about topics on here often. But to act like this movie is worshipping Oppenheimer or the bomb is disingenuous
but also if you think historical films shouldn't exist no matter how well they get reviewed not watching them is an option you have available

Pan the camera 90 degrees during the movie screening of the fall out.
