Would have took me out of the film
it definitely did even though I know it was supposed to show his ego some
Yeah, it's a dumb argument. A movie title shouldnt necessarily dictate that the whole narrative has to solely (keyword) focus on said title - and there are plenty of examples of this.
Sure, but anybody can tell watching the movie that the point was to fixate on Oppenheimer as a character

Its based on a biography and has been in the entire lead up mentioned
I do agree that the movie does not paint Oppenheimer as a heroic figure at all. But I too think Nolan did a disservice by not depicting the true brutal and cruel nature of the bombs.
After I saw the movie, I kept thinking of the Chernobyl TV show. It had some terrifying scenes of what I would describe as implicit horror. Oppenheimer has those too. But Chernobyl had a particular scene of explicit horror that was so effective because of how disarmingly real it was. To the point that it made me physically ill. And that scene was when we saw how the radiation had affected some of the rescuers.
It made palpable the true horror of such technology. And this movie did its audience a disservice by not subjecting it to the same experience as those affected by the bomb at that time.
Also I sure hope you’re not talking about the burn victim in the hospital bed in Chernobyl as being “disarmingly real”
It’s already been confirmed by most Chernobyl experts and those that were there at the time that the show prioritized shock horror and theatrics over reality. Even the helicopter crash scene didn’t go down the way it did in reality and the show laughably suggests it went down because the radiation immediately f***ed up the pilot.
I’m glad Oppenheimer didn’t opt for the same approach

appears people want more shock and horror tactics over reality. When the real horror would have been mentioning things like operation paperclip. Making clear America itself as a character changed with the detonation of the nuke not just with their disrespect of Oppenheimer
My gripe was just that none of those scenes added anything. They all felt out of place.
Like really we’re doing mid party rizz ups with quick cuts to cowgirl nudity in a historical biopic? That’s some 2000s raunchy comedy s***.
But if there’s gonna be unnecessary nudity at least make it worth our while or something. We ain’t even see Murphy swinging when I was told we were getting frontal of both.
The cut sent to china and arab countries had no nudity at all I was reading this post like wtf was I watching

LMFAO

Exactly
Oppenheimer is a terrifying movie but what makes it terrifying is that it’s talking about the reality and how our country changed in the wake of this weapon
LMFAO
When they were talking and he was undressed Jean had a CGI black dress on man

lol I am hollering that this is the way you figured out

That’s the funniest bit to me man I had to text my homies to see if I wasn’t tripping
I’m slowly coming to terms with the main issue I had with the s***scenes is that Florence Pugh is ugly
I did not want my eyes subjected to that 3 times. One was sufficient
There's a scene where the fall out from the bombs is just off screen and we're holding on the pain of our sad military scientist 🥲 Pan the f***ing camera
There's a scene in The Grey Fox where Richard Farnsworth plays a historical character and goes to see a screening of an early silent film and he's intimately affected by it and we cross cut between him and the screen and it's the best scene in the movie!
I think its decency from Nolan for the real victims. Believe or not this is still cinema, its spectacle, its entertainment. So what would showing the results would have done except exploiting the victim in a weird gore p*rn? We all know the result of an atomic bomb. Plus we dont see any japanese people in the movie, the only moment he should show them is as victims?
Nolan knows he s got a responsiblity. He chose decency

It’s honestly funny how much we consistently talk about the critique of making a spectacle out of tragedy and when Nolan finally makes a humane film that refuses to do so, the brain rot of our society wants to cry about the lack of BOOM BOOMs and radiation victims and cries
I don’t think cinema shouldn’t EVER show these things but it’s very clear Nolan was making a film in a certain way such that showing those things would’ve taken away from what the aim of the film was

Plus it changes the perception. Oppenheimer is seen as a complex man in the movie. As soon as you show the victim, he becomes the devil. Nuances disappear. And Nolan seemed interested in nuances

-Where the boom boom

like at a certain point just let it be

Some lines were hard to hear
mostly just those thick ass accents for me but sometimes it did feel like the mixing like with spider-verse
Some lines were hard to hear
In a Nolan film?!?! I am shocked
In all seriousness it wasn't as bad as Tenet but yeah some scenes were tough to make out the dialogue

yep mainly towards the beginning overall much better than Tenet though
Also I loved this film
Prly won't have much rewatchability but incredible performances and directing
Downey Jr tapped into that whiny, sneaky scumbag role and haven't seen him pull that off since US Marshalls dude was great in this and of course Cillian who carries the film and Emily Blunt who especially shines in the last act of the film...Josh Hartnett disappeared into his role and idk if I've ever been able to say that about him lol
