What are you classing as "this generation"
    Like 2000 - present
    Or 2010 - 2020
    ?

That's what I'm wondering. And art comes in many forms. I'm sure 90s rappers and R&B people weren't going to the art museum for inspiration

Every generation before us had some vibrant impressive or at least underground art movement that shaped music. We don’t have that. There are a few good upcoming artists but nothing to be called. Music reflects art but there’s no art. So we imitate entertainment which can hold no true artistic value or meaning. It’s strange to see in real time. Many of you will complain and say I’m wrong but you don’t know any better.
Will we literally be the blank generation?

What vibrant impression or art movement Would you say inspired Kanye’s albums and Kendrick’s?

I feel the whole “black-hippy, cloud-rap, Danny Brown” was an art wave.
I call it the hipster/hippie wave.

Then the soundcloud/Elmo rap wave came, with strong similarities to grunge and punk

I also feel there was a “world” wave, back when “Lean On” was a hit

It's been a thing. Just no one has the balls to call it art.

Man this nigga spitting. All of the art we make is cover art for rappers. Art turned into a way for money not to express ourselves. The best artist don’t make money and the richest artists make fast food art to please us for a second. Though some of the rich start out as good but sell out. Mans Cookies is on the sum

Isn't the art movement of our generation the increasing availability of home studio equipment and the internet which gives everyone the ability to create music and art and market themself to the world.

Although labels have largely co-opted this idea but many artists from the blog, soundcloud and whatever we have now are possible because of this economic revolution in music.

Home studios aren’t exactly new, but the way they are now Is a bit different than the last yes. And in the perfect world yes it’s be great for marketing and getting yourself out there but it also creates a lot of “fluff” to sift through

Music and art are interchangeable. Many of the concepts are used and mixed together to create new ideas

Maybe you don’t pay enough attention to "art" ? What is this definite "art" apparantly lacking ?

This is some peak bullshit that people have been saying about the contemporary culture at the time for ages

people are looking at music, especially rap as a get rich scheme and not expressing anything personal or being creative at all. algorithm made playlists dont help this either. but actual quality artists are definitely still out, people already listed earl and mach hommy. its pretty pointless to try and compare different generations music quality tho cause all the mid generic stuff gets forgotten
