Yeah but what does that even mean in 2020.

What barriers can even be pushed anymore?

Every generation before us had some vibrant impressive or at least underground art movement that shaped music. We don’t have that. There are a few good upcoming artists but nothing to be called. Music reflects art but there’s no art. So we imitate entertainment which can hold no true artistic value or meaning. It’s strange to see in real time. Many of you will complain and say I’m wrong but you don’t know any better.
Will we literally be the blank generation?

Kanye is his own art movement

There’s plenty of art on the internet and definitely some movements. Anime and nostalgic art styles have been influential as well as fashion. Usually I find some value in your weird deep-esque threads but this ain’t it. Even memes are our art

I think OP is speaking more about the direction of the culture the later half of the 2010s. It’s been said on here multiple times but 2010-2013was a sweet spot. 2014 was a glimpse at how rough things could be and now it’s starting to feel like a consistent 2014 of disappointment

If we are talking post 2015 I 100% agree with OP. If we are talking the 200s as a whole or even the 2010s as an entirety then I disagree. We were in a perfect place in 2012 I wish would happen again

  • Mar 24, 2020

Also there’s so much happening on the internet it’s hard to pay attention to movements that are popping off rn. Ik Uk drill has the wave rn

    it's our art tho.

our sense of humour is definitely a reflection of our music tastes.

and I bet the most memeable album will stand the test of time as our generation's classic.

people are looking at music, especially rap as a get rich scheme and not expressing anything personal or being creative at all. algorithm made playlists dont help this either. but actual quality artists are definitely still out, people already listed earl and mach hommy. its pretty pointless to try and compare different generations music quality tho cause all the mid generic stuff gets forgotten

There’s definitely still quality artists out there making music for a certain niche but pop and mainstream rap hasn’t been interesting in a minute. The best artist back in the day knew how to flip avant garde s*** into accessible music which took talent,we only get cookie cutter type s*** cause the artist are cookie cut outs.

Not very much is inspired by anything these days except maybe some weak ass anime and even then it’s just aesthetics

I think Die Lit is genuinely a superb album that should be re-evaluated very soon. I hate how dudes tried to make it memeable cause it’s really a great album by any standards.

i gotta listen in full soon. i think i've played a couple tracks here and there.

but honestly memes are the next thing for writing on any platform.
there's no more seriousness or lies to be exposed we pretty much know or can get a grip of everything going on.

now all we can do is make jokes about it like a jester entertaining the throne.

TLDR: We got to smart to make serious music.

Nah,the internet just opened the forbidden door of the music industry and made becoming a music artist easier. You use to have to network till you finally met someone to put you on and then your music had to impress their taste. Now kids from all over are the judges and a lot of them have no real taste beyond internet trends so we end up where we are now.
