That's not why it's not sticking

Artists who came up during the streaming era do not make albums that stick.

This has always been the case

    Streaming just actually gives numbers

When you bought a song on iTunes and played it years later or played a CD
that wasn’t tracked in the past

    Now it is
That’s all there is to this

"In the first half of 2021, according to MRC Data’s report, ‘current’ music claimed just 33.6% of total consumption, down from 36.1% in H1 2020."

Some people are coping by saying "it has always been like that" when these numbers are getting worst every year. The music industry is in such a pitiful state right now.

    Damn

    doesn’t mean anything

Streaming service adoption grew 9.5% last year

If you assume that generally music listening is a 1/3 to 2/3 split then a 9.5% increase in streaming service should result in a 3% decrease in “new music listening” because pure sales and etc are declining by that much

    Nobody buys a gunna record

    They stream it

Which is why it doesn’t stick with people.

Obviously but this stat doesn't say anything about the future of music, it makes sense and would stay like this

    yes exactly lol

This is just a symptom of people moving to a style of music consumption (streaming) that actually accurately tracks what music people are listening to on a day to day basis

Obviously this couldn’t be tracked in the past w s*** like CDs or digital downloads - it could only track people who were buying NEW copies of old music

they really hate to see it. Instead of wondering what's wrong with the modern music industry they will do all type of mental gymnastics to deny the obvious.

  • Jul 16, 2021

It’s just not physically possible to create completely original music anymore since we’ve heard all spectrums of noise already.

  • A Mad Ass Nigga

When things are back to normal fr numbers go rise people Sleeping on hot new music just cause they’re dusty and can’t get with the times.

That's crazy because people sleep on old music that they weren't around for if it's not a popular ass album like Illmatic or w/e

older deep cuts that aren't on streaming >>>

  • Jul 16, 2021

Obviously there’s way more older music than music that dropped in 2021
