Is it wrong to wish death penalty on all 3? Parents seem just as guilty as the kid.

    Absolutely wrong.

So the teen who killed people should live?

I’m sure there are conservatives who are nice and polite and cooperative or whatever

But being a conservative in America means that you support a movement that is explicitly and unequivocally opposed to any sort of change with how the country operates in its current form

And even supporting that movement, let alone participating in it, is such a big red flag regarding the privilege you enjoy and/or the sheer cognitive dissonance you have regarding your world view

These are parents that will place the worldview of sexism, of “there is no racism,” of “healthcare is bad,” of “mental health isn’t real,” of at least one of these views if not all.

Sure but that has nothing to do with what dude said

I mean an eye for an eye is what leads us down the path of these conservatives asking for more guns. The kid is only a teen and the whole family being granted maximum sentences without killing them should be enough.

We have to pay for them to be in prison. The teen killed and injured multiple people and that should forfeit your right to live. He definitely shouldn't be able to get out.

What does killing him accomplish? What problem does that solve?

It's not going to discourage future school shooters from shooting up schools. It's not going to make bad parents into good parents. It's not going to tackle the fundamental problem the US has with guns being so intertwined with our culture. It's not going to increase to amount of money going into mental health and social services. It's not going to fix the feelings of isolation that so many people in this country feel.

The only possible thing you could say it does is make some of the families feel a tiny bit better.

Killing him literally does nothing. It just adds another body to this tragedy and the cycle will continue.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself also killing the kid downplays the parents involvement in his upbringing to the public eye imo

Killing him is justice for the victims. I think its a slap in the face to have him live especially if he can get out.

How does him being killed bring justice? What does killing him even give the parents? Closure? Closure over what? Their children are dead, shaken, or changed forever. What even defines justice in a case like this?

Because they simply think “revenge killing = justice” like we’re in ancient Babylon or some s***

Not even defining what justice is or how killing gets us there

Is suffering under our country’s prison system doesn’t mean we should be killing prisoners. It means we should be changing the unjust system

What ever happened to unalienable rights? Discussion like this just proves that people really don’t care about rights other than for a position of moral grandstanding

I’ve had family be maliciously killed under different circumstances… I was at a point where I was wishing death on every US serviceman I saw

It’s not a productive position to have and it only creates seething negativity and distracts from the real sources of the problem that must be worked against

Sure, kill him, but when someone’s death instills you with a sense of satisfaction, what difference is there between you and the shooter ?

    my condolences.

But you know it's idealistic to expect other folks to have that type of understanding as you do right?

I'd love to say I'm on your side as I (fortunately) have not had to go through this. But just knowing how emotional I already am as a person, nah. You gotta be under the ground you touch one of mines.

I mean there's no one way to react even if it does happen to you. I've heard the family of murder victims say they forgive the killer and s*** before. And definitely there's ones that say they don't want the death penalty. (Of course there's ones that do too)

It’s not idealistic, it’s simply a different mindset that must be taught, which isn’t being taught due to it going against the fundamental framework we live within

It’ll take generations and I don’t expect people to inherently adopt such a viewpoint considering g the world we’re raised in. But I think it’s one that must be taught so that we can create something better for everyone

    Change what?

The prison system is unjust. It’s explicitly being used as a source of slave labor (slavery is legal as punishment for a crime) as interest groups lobby for strict laws to increase the population

Meanwhile the prisons themselves do nothing to help get those criminals out of the s***ty situation they’re in, and they’re likely to return to prison. This is intentional so owners can make money off of slave labor

Prison should be for people who can reform. If you shot up a school you should get death penalty.
