Was thinking this the other day. People who are really nostalgic over a particular time of there aren’t currently happy with the life they have.

Reminiscing about old times with friends is fine but to miss certain parts of your life says to me you aren’t happy.

    Thoughts?

I have fake nostalgia for music that I discovered or grew to appreciate as an adult

    It doesn’t work like that

People can experience nostalgia without living in the past

    I disagree

It might be true for some people but I feel most adults have nostalgia from when they were kids and that is usually because life was carefree and innocent

Most of the time when I experience nostalgia it isn’t because I’m longing for the past it’s because I see something randomly and it triggers it

    Damn 2020 better than 2019?

Idk about you but that was probably the most chill and relaxed year of my life. Plus everyone made a ton of money off crypto/market and loans. 2020 nyc is something I’ll never forget. Such a unique time.

    Def better than 2019

Can’t speak on their life but their mindset and perspective isn’t super positive or progressive if they’re super hung up on the past or nostalgia

  • Aug 9, 2023

isnt that the biological point of nostalgia in the first place

I agree in a metaphorical way, a year might not be “better” according to some people’s objective terms but the experiences and lessons learnt are always super valuable and not to be dismissed

ain’t no way you think 2020 was better than 2015

wow that's such an intelligent statement <3

  • Aug 9, 2023

I feel like this is a given depending on the magnitude of the nostalgic feelings. To desire anything in general implies that you aren't satisfied with your current experience

Hmmm, I often do find myself pining for the mentality I had summer of my junior year (quit doing d**** for the first time/getting into comics and punk music, truly finding my people), mostly because that was the first time since being a child I was actually happy.

This point in life tho, I'd say I'm relatively happy given as to how much I've grown the last few years, I can finally start enjoying the fruits of my labor, but still pining for that attitude/discipline I had back then.
