My boys are all 4-5 years older than me and all the time they're bringing up s*** from their adolescence and HS years and whenever i mention how they live in the past they get defensive
Same with an ex she would always be so caught up in the past.
You too caught up in the past you miss the future
ain’t no way you think 2020 was better than 2015
2015 was great. Every year is.
But in 2020 I got to spend almost a whole year vibing at home with my girl, made odee money off crypto/stocks, had so much free time to study languages and play games, home cooked meals daily, more time to focus on the gym, had incredible biking and walking experiences around an empty NYC
2020 literally only sucked for people who rely on crowd environments for self fulfillment

I hear you. I’m mainly talking about the state of the world though.
Holding onto memories doesn’t mean that at all ?? The point of living in the present is to create precious memories, no ?
Sometimes the qualities of different facets shift but doesn’t mean life overall isn’t good or even better
I’m in the best situation I’ve ever been in over a decade but I had to tone down my social life and reckless abandon quite a bit
Worth it, but sometimes I get nostalgic for the friends I used to have and miss them, and sometimes it’s nice to romanticize the times I didn’t have to give a damn (even if that attitude drew me to an all time low), but I love my life it’s f***ing awesome
Blows my mind when people be saying s*** like “2015 was the best year”
Feel like every year is better than the last
This how I feel when people say this about 2016. I really don’t understand the appeal of 2016 at all lmao that year was annoying.
My 2015 was fire but I agree with you for the most part, every year since like 2017 was better than the last for me, only reason my 2020 and 2021 was so wack was cuz of personal tragedies
You saying you don’t feel anything when you hear this?
Semi agree with OP. But I'm biased, life is pretty much better for me at this point than it was even 2 years ago, let alone 5.
I find no joy in being nostalgic, in fact I try to avoid it. Thinking about the good times of the past...while knowing you won't ever be able to relive them or get them back makes it an incredibly sad, depressing exercise.
every year for me has been better than the last in my adult life but there are some moments I will never get to relive so it's fun to think about it and reminisce with friends
It doesn’t work like that
People can experience nostalgia without living in the past

Yeah I cringe when I see posts like that lol. Like ain’t no way your life peaked 8 years ago 🥴 mfs be young asl saying things like that too. I expect stuff like that from old heads that already lived their life to best of their abilities.
I disagree
It might be true for some people but I feel most adults have nostalgia from when they were kids and that is usually because life was carefree and innocent
So if an adult feels that way it’s because their current life isn’t carefree/innocent.
I never think back and wish I was 8 years old again.
Nah I get nostalgic about the most painful and depressing times in my life, weird as hell
My life is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better now
Of course I get nostalgia of the good times too but so weird that a time in my life that was absolute booty cheeks always is calling to me. (Think its the d**** tbf)
Nostalgia is different than reminiscing.
I’m not saying you can’t discuss the past but saying you wish it was like it was previously says to me you don’t enjoy your current life.

Nostalgia is bittersweet longing for the past, not because your life isn't satisfying now, but because you know the past is the past and can never be the same as it was.
I am nostalgic about my times with my grandparents as a child, not because I don't enjoy my current life, but because I know those times will never be the same again since my grandpa is no longer here and my grandma is battling dementia.
